Chestnut Ward: (Medical Admissions Unit (MAU))
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Ward Manager role to be part of the senior nursing team on our 46 bedded (plus 6 chairs) medical acute admissions unit. The busy acute ward also has eight monitored beds for acutely unwell patients. The post holder will be one of two band 7 ward managers for the ward. The post holder will be supported by an experienced Matron and senior nursing team.

As a senior leader the post holder will be expected to have, clinical expertise in acute medicine nursing, with expert organisational skills to develop acute medicine nursing, and have a passion for developing people to enable quality care provision for patients.

Our MAU works closely with the Emergency Department (ED) and Acute Assessment Unit (AAU). MAU prides itself in providing high quality care and patient experience, in a caring and supportive environment, which will enhance your clinical expertise. Staff receive support and ongoing development tailored to your individual needs.
We provide all the following:
- Daily consultant and criteria led discharges
- Ward and multi-disciplinary board rounds
- Daily multidisciplinary team input from physiotherapy, occupational therapy and social workers
- Rapid access to consultants in all core specialties most days of the week
- Links with clinical nurse specialists for conditions such as ACS, heart failure, COPD, oncology and palliative care
- Fast access to diagnostics
- Daily input from the substance misuse team
- Joint working with our community partners, including falls teams, COPD teams and district nurses

- Registered Nurse
- Preparation for Mentorship course (or ability to complete)
- Relevant post registration specialist course or significant relevant experience

- Diploma / Degree level study in a clinically relevant course i.e. HDU / Acutely ill Adult / elderly care course / CCU etc.
Experience, Skills and Abilities
Essential
- Substantive 3 years' experience as a Band 6 staff nurse in an acute setting
- Experience of managing a team
- The ability to effectively function as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- The ability to assess patients; develop, implement and evaluate a plan of care.
- The ability to support professional development and create a learning environment
- The ability to safely administer medicines in accordance with NMC Guidelines for the administration of medicines (2002).The ability to keep accurate records in accordance with NMC Guidelines for records and record keeping (2002)

- A level of nursing knowledge consistent with required post registration experience and specialist knowledge where appropriate.
