Job summary

Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit a permanent Clinical Scientist in Magnetic Resonance Physics (AfC Band 7).

Main duties of the job

The main purpose of this post is to provide Magnetic Resonance (MR) Physics support to Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and King's College London (KCL) within the King's Health Partners Academic Health Science Centre, as well as external MRI providers.

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential

  • Good (1st or 2nd class) Honours degree in a relevant subject
  • Relevant MSc or equivalent
  • HCPC State registered or in final phase of an approved scheme (STP, route 2, international equivalence)
  • Advanced knowledge of patient procedures and of problems arising from system errors, equipment failure and clinical factors
  • Advanced specialist knowledge of MR techniques and clinical applications
  • Understanding of hazards posed by, and precautions needed with intense magnetic fields & radiofrequency fields

Desirable

  • Completion of Scientist Training Programme (or equivalent) in Medical Physics, ideally in Imaging using Non-ionising Radiation
  • Relevant PhD

Experience

Essential

  • Highly developed specialist knowledge across the full range of working procedures and practices in MR physics, building on theoretical knowledge and practical experience
  • In-depth experience of reconstruction or postprocessing of MR images

Desirable

  • Specialist training and practical experience with a wide range of MR/ systems
  • Previous research experience
  • Experience of coding such as Matlab and Python / Pytorch and/or pulse sequence development

Skills

Essential

  • Able to prioritise and manage own work
  • Able to exercise own initiative.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation, national standards, professional and other guidelines
  • Able to concentrate for prolonged periods
  • Able to deal with occasional distressing (occasional work with patients) or complex and unpredictable situations
  • Able to prepare and deliver highly complex information (teaching, training and conferences)
