Senior Clinical Fellow in Critical Care Echo

The closing date is 03 May 2026

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Clinical Fellow to join the Adult Critical Care Department as a Fellow in Critical Care Echocardiography commencing in August 2026.

Please note that only applicants with a minimum of 12 months substantive anaesthesia experience will be considered.

The purpose of the post is to learn how to perform echocardiography (echo) within the critical care department. The successful candidates would work with the ICU Echo Lead and cardiac physiologists to provide an echo service for the department, undertake echo related quality improvement, clinical governance, audit and research projects and assist with the departmental postgraduate echo education program.

This is an exciting and challenging post which will provide the post-holder with unrivalled clinical experience and many opportunities for portfolio development. The role occupies a central position in the Trusts' high class delivery of care and carries significant responsibility.

This post may close early if a sufficient number of applications have been received.

Main duties of the job

This post is offered as a Fellowship in Critical Care Echocardiography for a period of one year with an option to extend to two years subject to satisfactory performance. The post is divided into two parts. 40% of the time the post holder will be working closely with cardiac physiologists to learn how to perform echocardiograms in order to provide a departmental echo service and working on echo related projects. The other 60% the post holder is required to work a full on-call system delivering clinical care for our critical care units and outreach services.

The candidates would be expected to gain FUSIC Heart accreditation within the first 4 months alongside either BSE Level 1 or FUSIC HD by 6 months. By the end of the year the candidates should be scanning at a BSE Level 2 standard and working towards completion of BSE Level 2, ACCE or EDEC. Subject to performance there would be an option to extend the placement to a second year in order to complete BSE L2/ACCE and/or EDEC accreditation.
