Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust

Consultant in Maternal Fetal Medicine

The closing date is 08 April 2026

Job summary

This is a joint post between East Kent University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (EKHUT) and Evelina Women and Children's Clinical Group, Guys and St Thomas' Hospitals Foundation Trust (GSTT). The Trusts are seeking a full-time (10 PA) Consultant to join two Women's Health departments - one at William Harvey Hospital and one at St Thomas' Hospital. Work on both sites will involve Fetal Medicine and High-risk Obstetrics.

The Clinical Director for Women's Services at Guys and St Thomas' is Professor Eugene Oteng-Ntim.

The Clinical Director at William Harvey Hospital is Miss Zoe Woodward.

The GSTT Obstetric Service is led by Dr Sheela Swamy and Mr Con Kelleher. The Maternity unit serves the local population (which is diverse with high levels of deprivation) as well as receiving referrals from all over the UK and overseas. It is also the hub for the South East London Maternal Medicine Network.

The WHH Obstetric service sees 3500 deliveries per year, and isone of the largest hospital trusts in England, with three acute hospitals and community sites serving a local population of around 700,000. We also provide specialist services for Kent and Medway.

Main duties of the job

The post holder would undertake a regular labour ward day at GSTT (08.30-22.30 on site) as well as weekday and weekend obstetric on calls.

The other components of the role include a weekly antenatal clinic at both GSTT and WHH, as well as Fetal Medicine sessions across both Trusts.

Please note, the job plan in the attached job description is indicative, and agreed across both GSTT and WHH Trusts. Exact job plan/duties should be discussed with the Head of Service, or CD, ahead of applying or at interview.

About us

As an organisation, we are committed to developing our services in ways that best suit the needs of our patients. This includes asking certain groups of staff to work more flexibly so that we can offer services to patients in the evenings and at weekends. We regard this flexibility as essential if we are to continue to provide first class patient care in the future. As a result, any offer of employment to a consultant post will be subject to you agreeing to work a new more flexible pattern of working in the future if required and in accordance with the provisions of the new Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust consultant contract.

Please note that successful completion of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is our accepted minimum language requirement.
