Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced paediatric nurse to join a dynamic and ambitious multidisciplinary surgical team at Evelina London, contributing to the growth of an expanding paediatric surgical research portfolio.

The Evelina Children's Surgery Service is the regional centre for specialist and general surgical care.

The paediatric clinical research nurse for surgery will lead on the delivery of three defined research studies, supporting infants, children and young people and their families through every stage of the research journey, from screening and consent to peri-operative procedures and follow-up. Working in close partnership with paediatric surgeons, clinical nurse specialists and the surgical wards and NICU teams, the post holder will champion safe, ethical and high-quality research that places children and families at the centre of care, promotes innovation and supports Evelina London's commitment to improving outcomes through research.

Main duties of the job

The paediatric clinical research nurse for surgery will play a key role in coordinating and delivering an expanding portfolio of research studies including: an NIHR funded trial of gastric acid suppression versus placebo for babies with oesophageal atresia, a study of babies undergoing surgery on NICU versus theatres, and a study of children and young people having pilonidal sinus trephination versus laser therapy.

The post-holder will be responsible for the holistic nursing care of children and young people and their families on existing and new clinical trials and contribute to the assessment and management of care pathways for patients participating in clinical studies.

As a skilled communicator the post-holder will possess excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills and be able to act as an ambassador for promoting research utilisation and best practice.

The normal working hours for the post is Monday - Friday 09:00 - 17:00, although flexibility may be needed to accommodate patient visits and assessments outside of these hours when required. The post-holder will also be required to work 1-2 clinical shifts per month (accounted for within the full-time hours of the post) on either Savannah Surgery or Mountain Surgery to maintain clinical engagement and competencies.
