GUY'S AND ST. THOMAS' HOSPITAL NHS FOUNDATION TRUST Senior Clinical Research Fellow in Clinical Oncology (Uro-Oncology / Prostate Cancer Radiotherapy) - OPEN Trial

Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Senior Clinical Research Fellow in Clinical Oncology (Uro-oncology) to support the delivery of a major translational clinical research programme focused on improving outcomes for patients undergoing radiotherapy for prostate cancer.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting a randomised phase III clinical trial evaluating the use of a prebiotic to prevent radiation enteropathy in patients undergoing pelvic radiotherapy for prostate cancer. The study aims to recruit approximately 320 patients and includes comprehensive clinical phenotyping alongside the collection of biological samples to support microbiome and metabolomic analyses.

Main duties of the job
The post-holder will play a key role in the setup, coordination and delivery of translational and clinical research studies, most particularly a randomised phase III trial investigating interventions to prevent radiation enteropathy in patients undergoing pelvic radiotherapy for prostate cancer.
Responsibilities will include:
- Supporting trial setup and regulatory processes, including collaboration with research governance teams.
- Leading and supporting patient recruitment to clinical trials within the prostate cancer radiotherapy programme.
- Conducting trial-related clinical assessments and follow-up, ensuring adherence to study protocols and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
- Supporting the collection and processing of biological samples for translational research, including samples used for microbiome and metabolomic analyses.
- Contributing to the development and maintenance of research biobanks and associated datasets.
- working closely with multidisciplinary collaborators including clinical oncologists, microbiome scientists, translational researchers, statisticians and trial management teams.

- Provide supervision and support to Specialty Registrars (SpRs) and contribute to the education and training of junior medical staff within the department.
