Main duties of the job
We are advertising for x2;one-year Junior Clinical Fellow posts in Proactive Care of Older People undergoing Surgery. This is a well-established fellowship programme, now in its fourth year, and has received consistently excellent feedback from previous fellows.
The post holders will join the Perioperative Medicine for Older People undergoing Surgery (POPS) team within the Department of Ageing and Health. POPS is an innovative, award-winning service providing Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) and optimisation for older patients undergoing both elective and emergency surgery. The service operates across both Guy's and St Thomas' hospital sites, supporting a wide range of specialties including urology, gastrointestinal surgery, vascular, plastics, trauma and orthopaedics, cardiac and cardiothoracic surgery, gynaecology, and community amputee rehabilitation.
The fellows will contribute to the delivery of preoperative assessment and optimisation, shared decision-making, and the postoperative management of surgical inpatients. Clinical duties will include participation in outpatient clinics, ward rounds, board rounds, and multidisciplinary team meetings.
The role offers a flexible 50:50 split between clinical work and research/quality improvement/service development. Fellows will be supported to complete projects, with opportunities to publish and present, alongside gaining management and service development experience.
