Job summary
To assist both the Crown & Bridge and Prosthetics Dental Laboratories with a range of routine (process working) and non-routine tasks within the unit; produce laboratory plaster models; articulate study casts; digital scanning and designing of models; design digital models from intra oral scans; measure and replenish materials and chemicals; collect and deliver items of work within the department areas; clean and carry out basic maintenance tasks and assist/complete laboratory administration work. The post holder will also assist with pouring working models for technicians in both laboratories. The role will involve a period of basic training, supported by in house vocational training. The post holder will be requested to work across both laboratories within the trust

Upload files from intra oral design centres and transfer to laboratory scanners
Design working models for both laboratories using latest CAD (computer aided design) technology using data taken from intra oral scanners.
Responsible for maintaining the milling units and 3D printing machines
Responsible for in-house printing units
Assist in the laboratory admin and clerical work when required, including computing data and filing laboratory records. Assisting in retrieval of data to assist research programs within the department.
Follow department policy and guidelines regarding infection control
Comply with laboratory and current health & safety and COSHH legislation.
Provide training for staff and students to use the milling units and 3D printers
Communicating with staff, students and senior Technicians to understand the complexities of the production of devices.
Be responsible for the manufacturing of soft bite raisers, essix retainers, maxillary and mandibular special trays, implant guides and stents, radiographic stents, exaclear stents, wax rims, diagnostic wax ups, designing and milling single units crowns, 3D print models and bleaching trays.

Provide plaster models to laboratory and clinical staff when required, ensuring quality control measures are met. Involves handling sterilised impressions direct from the clinics to generate accurate working/study models.

Manage/organise individual daily workloads and prioritise multiple requests as they arise; ensuring effective time management, in line with existing lab protocols.
Participate in the responsibility for the day-to-day maintenance of equipment used within the Fixed & Removable Laboratories, including a duty to ensure that it is kept in a good state of repair, reporting any faults to the laboratory manager.
Assist in the laboratory admin and clerical work when required, including computing data and filing laboratory records. Assisting in retrieval of data to assist research programs within the department.
Prepare/decant (hazardous) COSHH materials for use.
Follow department policy and guidelines regarding infection control
Comply with laboratory and current health & safety and COSHH legislation. Safe handle and management of materials of chemistry. Safe operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment, i.e.; high speed model trimmer/handpieces 3
Carry out role with awareness of MHRA registration policy and departmental registration.
