This is a clinical post based in the Department of Gastroenterology at Guy's & St Thomas' Hospitals. It is ideal for candidates who have completed or are completing their training in Gastroenterology and wish to gain experience in advanced lower GI endoscopy.
The Endoscopy Unit at Guy's and St Thomas' is JAG accredited and provides a wide range of diagnostic and interventional UGI, LGI and HPB endoscopic procedures.
The post holder will be trained in advanced colonic lesion recognition (dye spray/NBI) and colonic endotherapy (standard polypectomy, hands-on EMR and observation of ESD) and will deliver endoscopy service lists.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will participate in the lower GI MDM and will coordinate our fortnightly polyp meeting.
-Outpatient activity will include 1-2 clinics and one virtual clinic.
-They will also participate in rotation of the delivery of weekend endoscopy and in the on-call rota.
-Additional educational opportunities, depending on the post-holder training needs, will be available in other areas of Gastroenterology, such as advanced inflammatory bowel disease, nutrition, capsule endoscopy, and enteroscopy.
- Contribution to the team research portfolio will be encouraged.
- The post holder will participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training, including educational supervision of medical students.

Job responsibilities
- Attendance at 10 sessions per week across sites at Guys & St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust. The exact timetable may vary but would include 3-4 endoscopy sessions (1 training and 2-3 service), 1-2 clinics, one virtual clinic, and participation in relevant multidisciplinary meetings (LGI MDM and polyp meeting).
- The post holder will also be expected to cover certain additional endoscopy lists in rotation with other clinical fellows and to participate in the week-end endoscopy rota and in the on-call endoscopy rota, covering weekdays and weekends. Weekend ward cover is also anticipated.
- The post will include involvement in service development and the improvement of quality of care through audit, quality improvement projects and implementation of new services at GSTT.
- Administrative duties necessary as part of clinical sessions, including writing of letters and provision of advice to GPs and other specialities will be required.
- The Post holder may, on occasions, be asked to undertake additional duties such as emergency endoscopy or consultations particularly when specialist registrars in the Department are away on annual or professional leave. Occasional night shifts for general acute medicine may be required (no more than 3-4 per year) and compensated by day in lieu. In exceptional circumstances (e.g. major incident call) the fellow on call for Gastroenterology may be asked to attend and support the emergency department.
- Some of the endoscopy sessions will be flexible each week. If endoscopy sessions are not available or cannot be covered these sessions may be converted to OP clinics with appropriate administrative time.
