Job summary

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineering professional to join the Dental Maintenance team at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. As the Dental Engineering Maintenance Specialist, you will contribute to the safe and reliable operation of dental equipment used across one of the largest and most complex dental services in the UK. Working under the guidance of the Specialist Dental Equipment Engineer, you will carry out planned and reactive maintenance, support fault-finding, and help ensure that clinical teams have access to equipment that performs safely and consistently. This role is essential in supporting high-quality patient care and service continuity across Dental Services.

Main duties of the job

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance, safety checks and basic calibration tasks on dental chairs, suction systems, compressors and associated clinical equipment.
  • Undertake first-line reactive maintenance, fault-finding and repairs, escalating complex issues where required.
  • Maintain accurate engineering and maintenance records in line with Trust policies, regulatory standards and equipment inventory procedures.
  • Support equipment acceptance, installation activities and routine performance verification under the direction of the Specialist Engineer.
  • Liaise with dental clinical teams, MEMS, Procurement and external contractors to support safe and efficient operation of equipment.
  • Assist with stock management of spare parts, consumables and workshop materials.
  • Contribute to equipment-related projects, audits and service improvement activity as required.
  • Work flexibly across sites and support occasional out-of-hours or weekend work to meet service needs.

  • A HND or HNC in a relevant subject or equivalent experience, coupled with occupational training and experience.

Desirable

  • Background in facilities, medical equipment maintenance, or relevant experience with engineering service providers; preferably multi-skilled across electrical and mechanical disciplines.

  • Has the skills to work in pressurised situations such as equipment failures or loss of utilities, taking the lead where required.
  • Able to work under own supervision and lead within their discipline, working within maintenance procedures, guidance and safety standards.
