Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic research-active dietitian to hold responsibilities across research, education, clinical and leadership in Nutrition and Dietetics (N&D) as a Consultant Dietitian (Clinical Academic).

The appointee will develop an independent research programme within their specialty and will also have a responsibility to support department wide research and audit linking in with the directorate and AHP research leads.

The post holders have a clinical caseload in their specialty area working at expert level and will have some leadership responsibilities within the specialty and more widely across dietetics. The clinical speciality must be a specialty delivered at GSTT.

The post holder will join 2 other Consultant Dietitian posts in the department (plus one at the Royal Brompton) who specialise in Gastroenterology , HIV and Obesity and Adult Allergy with this appointee expected to expand the breadth of specialities covered.

The academic side of the post will hopefully involve an honorary lectureship with the Department of Nutritional Sciences at King's College London and will deliver regular teaching as well as supervising masters projects and PhD students. This may also involve leading relevant modules. The KCL component of the role is unable to be confirmed until after the appointment.

The N&D Department has around 200 staff made up of mainly dietitians, assistants and nutrition nurses. The post holders will report into the Head of N&D.

Main duties of the job

To lead research and audit within their field of expertise ensuring dissemination of findings including in peer review publications. This will include acting as Chief/Principal Investigator, leading research applications e.g. NIHR applications, charity grants.

Research, audit and quality improvement (QI) lead for N&D department supporting all staff with research and audit activity.

With the other Consultant Dietitians to act as the clinical academic links to Kings College London (KCL) Department of Nutritional Sciences (and or other Higher Education Institutes (HEI)) for research collaboration and student supervision e.g. MSc and PhD students.

Supports the clinical leadership of a designated specialist area providing expert clinical opinion to managers which assists the strategic direction of the N&D service across the whole organisation.

Identifies clinical research, quality improvement and data collection priorities within N&D to drive departmental development strategy.

Uses professional and clinical leadership in the development and implementation of high-quality, evidence based training programmes

To supportthe Clinical and Operational Lead and Principal Dietitian with the strategic management of a specialist dietetic team.

Responsible, in conjunction with the N&D management team, for maintaining and improving all aspects of clinical governance, evidence based practice and quality assurance across the Trust.
