About us
Pathology Services are provided by Synnovis, a partnership between Guy's and St Thomas' and King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trusts and SYNLAB UK and Ireland.
Guy's and St Thomas' request 11m per year at a cost of £78m and manage contracts across other NHS Trusts and CCGs at a value of £16m. 70-80% of all healthcare decisions involve a pathology investigation, and therefore clinical engagement across a wide range of Trust services is key.
The PBU is a single and unified team serving the needs of both Trusts (and partner organisations) to manage the contract for the provision of Pathology services through Synnovis.
The Pathology Programme is substantial; transforming Pathology services across both Trusts as well as the Integrated Care System (ICS) to standardise the Target Operating Model and improve service levels for all of our patients.
The purpose of the PBU is to deliver the above, manage the contract and ensure robust service governance, holding all parties to account for delivery and ensuring appropriate clinical governance for a clinically-led service. It will also play a crucial role in resolving day-to-day operational issues and performance management, bring together the system-wide stakeholders into a collaborative partnership that delivers the benefits of the service transformation, while holding all parties to account for delivering their contractual obligations.
