Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust

Locum Consultant for Nuclear Medicine

The closing date is 21 January 2026

Job summary

Guy's and St Thomas' is among the UK's busiest and most successful NHS foundation trusts. We provide a full range of hospital and community services for people in south London and as well as specialist care for patients from further afield including cancer, renal, orthopaedic, respiratory and cardiovascular services.

Guy's is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. As part of our commitment to provide care closer to home, in 2017 we also opened a cancer centre and a kidney treatment centre at Queen Mary's Hospital in Sidcup. St Thomas' has one of the largest critical care units in the UK and one of the busiest emergency departments in London. It is also home to Evelina London Children's Hospital.

Main duties of the job

Nuclear Medicine Services is seeking to appoint a part-time, fixed-term Locum Consultant in Nuclear Medicine (8 PAs: 7 DCC / 1 SPA) to support the continued growth of the Nuclear Medicine service.

The successful post holder will be involved in the full range of Nuclear Medicine activities, including specialist adult and paediatric Nuclear Medicine reporting, as well as Nuclear Medicine therapies and clinics. They will join an established and supportive team of five doctors within the Nuclear Medicine department.

There will also be an opportunity to undertake up to two additional sessions at the King's College London (KCL) and Guy's & St Thomas' PET Centre, subject to the successful candidate meeting the required essential PET competency criteria (see Pg 12).

If the essential PET criteria are not met, but the candidate is otherwise deemed suitable for the Nuclear Medicine role, the appointment will be limited to Nuclear Medicine sessions only, excluding PET.

This is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to join our team and gain experience across a broad range of general and subspecialty Nuclear Medicine within a supportive and collaborative environment. The post is for 12 months, with the potential to apply for future substantive positions, subject to service requirements and funding.

About us

Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust are one of the largest teaching hospitals in the UK. This is an excellent opportunity to join a first-class team in an active and progressive central London teaching hospital environment. In additional to supporting established Nuclear Medicine services, the post-holder may have the opportunity to develop additional areas of specialist interest. They will be expected to take an active interest in research and development and to participate in the teaching programs of the department. The post will be based at Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospitals. However, it is a requirement of your employment that you be prepared to work at any additional or different location owned or served by the Trust, either on an on-going or temporary basis according to the demands of the service.
