Job summary
Principal Trainers are expected to lead the analysis, design, delivery, implementation, and evaluation of cross-organisational digital training solutions for both clinical and non-clinical staff within their designated Epic applications area. The post holder will play a key role in ensuring that users are supported to adopt new technologies and workflows that improve patient care, operational efficiency, and digital maturity across the Trust.
While Epic certification is desirable at the time of application, candidates without are required to complete the Epic Sphinx assessment prior to interview. Full Epic certification in a nominated application is expected within six months of starting the role to retain the position.
This vacancy is within our Admin and Reporting applications (Cadence, Grand Central, PAS and Cogito/Reporting). We welcome applications from candidates with other Epic certifications who have credentials and experience with the above applications. Note: Successful candidates may need to lead, support or cover any of the Epic clinical and non-clinical apps in use at GSTT and KCH.If you are shortlisted for interview we will share the main interview questions at least 3 days in advance as part of our transparent interview process. There will also be some unseen follow-up questions.
Main duties of the job
As Principal Trainer, you will lead the design, development and delivery of end-user training for a designated Epic application, ensuring alignment with clinical workflows and Trust objectives. You will create high-quality, user-focused materials, including manuals, quick guides, lesson plan, e-learning modules and assessments. Training will be delivered through a blended model, including classroom, virtual and 1:1 sessions across all Trust sites.
You will work closely with Application and Configuration teams, operational leads and stakeholders to ensure training reflects system design, workflow updates and EHR programme goals. You will assess competency, gather feedback and refine delivery. The role also involves supporting users, resolving issues and maintaining records in the Learning Management System (LMS).
You will line manage two to three trainers, contribute to workflow reviews and Epic training build, testing, training environment maintenance and designing / leading workshops. You'll also support change management in complex settings. Epic certification and commitment to professional development are essential.
