Job summary
The Nurse Practitioner will assist the multidisciplinary team by undertaking advanced patient assessment, intervention and treatment for patients as an independent Practitioner.
In partnership with members of the multidisciplinary team the post holder will develop, implement and evaluate a seamless specialist service. They will demonstrate a high level of expertise within the specialist service, providing specialist advice, education and support to health care professionals and patients. The post holder will actively undertake clinical audits within the specialist area.The post holder will be responsible for contributing to the ongoing development of clinical practice and standards of care within the service, including development of policies, protocols and guidelines and contribute to service developments in collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues. Also ensures the safety and well being of services users, and always working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person centred care principles.
In cases where candidates do not fully meet the essential criteria but demonstrate appropriate skills and knowledge, they may be offered developmental opportunities to work in the post with the support of the team. This would require the candidate to meet the outstanding essential criteria within an agreed timeframe.

Main duties of the job
To work as part of a team, managing a caseload of patients within the specialty whilst working as part of the multidisciplinary team, delivering individualised and personalised direct patient care.
To triage adult inpatients in the acute hospital and day care setting, providing treatment under Management Pathways independently as a Nurse Practitioner, and referring patients to the appropriate medical teams if required, and according to priority system.
To undertake clerking for inpatient admissions (for both elective surgery and via Accident and Emergency). Taking and recording a patient history and performing a physical assessment.
Formulate treatment plans and investigations for patients as part of the multidisciplinary team.
To communicate sensitive information to patients and colleagues inline with Trust values and duty of candour.
To respond to and provide senior nursing support in the event of a clinical emergency on the in-patient ward areas.
Ensure that patients' receive high quality clinical care and a good patient experience, respecting patient confidentiality and privacy with respect for diverse cultural backgrounds and requirements.
Recognise and avoid situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the individuals.

- RN1 Registered Nurse, registered on the NMC register
- ENB 998 or equivalent teaching/mentorship course
- BSc/1st Degree, or equivalent experience
- Your professional knowledge acquired at degree level will be supplemented by specialist training, experience and short courses on a consistent basis working towards Masters level equivalent
- Experience of patient history taking and performing physical assessment.
- Post registration qualification within surgical speciality; Urology / Colorectal.
