Job summary

Two Foot & Ankle Fellowship posts are available within the Orthopaedics Directorate:

1. 12-month Fellowship - commencing October 2026 (fixed start date).

2. 8-month Fellowship - commencing February 2026. This post is available due to a vacancy. While an immediate start is desirable, the successful candidate may negotiate a later start date.

Main duties of the job

To provide high quality orthopaedic services to the Trust patients including the development of the service. To participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care. To participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training To gain further surgical and outpatient experience and develop an expertise in the management of orthopaedic conditions. To develop fellowship level skills in your chosen area of expertise. To participate in a relevant research project.

These posts are suitable for senior trainees who have successfully completed the FRCS (Tr & Orth) examination and wish to specialise further in foot and ankle surgery. Post-CCT candidates will be prioritised. These offer high-volume operative exposure across the full breadth of the subspecialty, including complex reconstructive work within a regional tertiary referral centre.

Fellows will gain experience in advanced elective and trauma foot & ankle surgery, participate in the 1:9:? Guys elective weekend rota, and are expected to coordinate and contribute to local and regional MDT meetings. The programme is highly sought after, with previous fellows progressing to competitive consultant posts in the UK and internationally. You will be expected to provide an orthopaedic and trauma service in conjunction with colleagues.
