We are seeking amotivated and experienced clinicianwith a specialist interest inLung Cancers. The successful candidate will work closely with a team of established consultants includingDrs Shahreen Ahmad, Daniel Smith, Michael Skwarski and Irene De Francesco. They will be supported by a team of Clinical Nurse Specialists. The service is led byDr Hartmut Kristeleit, Clinical Director for Oncology, andDr Mary Lei, Deputy Clinical Director for Clinical Oncology.

This Consultant post comprises8.75 Programmed Activities (PAs)and is focused on supporting theLung Oncology Servicesat GSTT, KCH and LGT.

Applicants must be fully registered with theGMC, hold aLicence to Practise, and be listed on theSpecialist Registerwith CCTin Oncology - or within 6 months of attaining CCT by the date of interview. AFellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR)or equivalent is essential, along with broad experience inClinical Oncology, includingsystemic anti-cancer therapy and radiotherapy. Aresearch degreeis highly desirable.

Job Summary:

To provide clinical oncology services to the GSTFT Cancer Centre and South East London Cancer Network.

To participate in research activities and clinical trials as required.

To participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care.

To take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training.

To contribute to the management of the clinical service and service development.

Duties and responsibilities:

Clinical:

The post holder will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of Clinical Oncology services to the Guys & St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust to include:

o Diagnosis and treatment of patients of the Guys and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust in such hospitals, health centres or clinics or other premises as required.

o Continuing clinical responsibility for the patients in your charge, allowing for all proper delegation to, and training of, your staff.

o Domiciliary consultations as required from time to time.

o The diagnosis and treatment of patients occupying accommodation made available under Sections 58, 65 and 66 of the National Health Service Act 1977, in so far as such patients have not made private arrangements for such treatment under Section 65(2) of the Act.

The post holder will be working in joint-clinic settings and will be supported by other oncologists in the MDT.

Inpatient care of clinical oncology patients is delivered by a ward attending rota system shared by all clinical oncology consultants. This translates to approximately 2 ward cover weeks per year during which routine work is cancelled.

Teaching:

All consultants are expected to take part in undergraduate teaching during their normal clinical work. Consultants taking on additional teaching responsibilities will have time allocated for these in their job plan.

Training:

All consultants will be expected to contribute to the training and support of doctors in training, including the role of Educational Supervisor in the educational contracts for junior staff in the specialty.

Research:

Clinical trial activity and Clinical Research is a key element of the work of a clinical oncology consultant and consultants will be expected to undertake in this activity as agreed with their clinical director.

Clinical Governance:

All consultants are expected to take part in clinical governance activity, including clinical audit, clinical guideline and protocol development and clinical risk management.

Clinical Management:

All consultants are expected to contribute to the management and development of their clinical service.

Other:
