Job summary

We are seeking a skilled Named Nurse Safeguarding Children to provide visible leadership, expert guidance, and drive service transformation. This face-to-face leadership role demands expertise in safeguarding children and young people, alongside strategic oversight and operational excellence. You will champion compassionate leadership and work with the senior leadership team to deliver impactful services for children and young people at risk.

In this influential leadership role, you will create and embed strategies that prioritise children's safety, elevate professional standards, and drive continuous quality and service improvement. You will steer the development of a high-performing, motivated nursing safeguarding children workforce along with ensuring effective oversight of clinical audit, governance, and risk management processes. The post holder will take a facilitative and empowering approach, nurturing creativity and leading others to be open to doing things differently if the desired outcomes improves the child and family experience.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide professional leadership, consultancy, advice, risk assessment and expert child protection practice, to support practitioners on actions to be taken in order to safeguard the child.
  • Make critical decisions and judgements and deliver advanced clinical skills to the case management of children and young people with complex safeguarding needs.
  • Contribute to the planning and development of child protection systems and arrangements within the Trust.
  • Influence and contribute to the development of Policies and Procedures in line with national guidance and the LSCP.
  • Contribute to sub groups of the LSCPs.
  • Analyse and respond to serious and untoward incidents, including Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews.
  • Oversee provision of safeguarding supervision to health visitors and school nurses.
  • Operationally line manage the Safeguarding Nurse Specialists.
  • Identify safeguarding training needs, prepare and deliver, a training programme to address these.
  • Ensure the Safeguarding Children Service is embedded in the Evelina London Children's Healthcare Community Services clinical governance structure.

Job responsibilities

  • To ensure that staff support and advice is available and that a coordinated and consistent cover for child protection is provided.
  • Exercise a high degree of autonomy to make critical decisions and judgements and deliver advanced clinical skills to the case management of children and young people with complex safeguarding needs.
  • Contribute to the planning and development of child protection systems and arrangements within the Trust.
