Locum Consultant in Paediatric Allergy

Job summary
There is a dedicated Paediatric Allergy Department which houses clinical and academic staff working in a multidisciplinary environment. Clinics run in conjunction with a dedicated specialist paediatric allergy dietician, specialist nursing support that provides allergy testing, management advice, education and support, and psychology support. Day case food and drug challenges as well as immunotherapy and administration of biologics, are carried out in a dedicated Children's Allergy Day Unit every day of the week.
Approximately 6000 children are seenin our outpatient clinics each year. New to follow-up ratio is approximately 1.7. Around 1800 children are seen each year as day cases for either food/drug provocation challenges, sublingual or subcutaneous immunotherapy. There is an increasing number of patients being seen for food oral immunotherapy (milk and peanut) and for complex drug challenges as well as omalizumab administration. Clinical referrals are a mix of GP, secondary and tertiary care referrals.
Most clinics are Consultant led and supported by nurses and specialist Paediatric allergy dietitians. Senior clinical nurse specialists and specialist dietitians run their own clinics. Skin prick testing, lung function testing, exhaled nitric oxide measurement, adrenaline auto-injector training and allergen avoidance advice are all available for patients during their visit.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will be accountable to Evelina Clinical Director, Dr Jo Laddie. As an organisation, we are committed to developing our services in ways that best suit the needs of our patients. This includes asking certain groups of staff to work more flexibly so that we can offer services to patients in the evenings and at weekends. We regard this flexibility as essential if we are to continue to provide first class patient care in the future. As a result, any offer of employment to a consultant post will be subject to you agreeing to work a new more flexible pattern of working in the future if required and in accordance with the provisions of the new Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust consultant contract.
