Main duties of the job

As a Specialist Pharmacist (AIMD, Lipids & Diabetes/Endocrinology), you will:

  • Provide expert, patient-centred care in specialist outpatient clinics for Adult Inherited Metabolic Diseases, lipid disorders, and diabetes/endocrinology, including independent prescribing and complex medicines optimisation.

  • Act as a clinical leader and role model, offering specialist advice to multidisciplinary teams and ensuring the highest standards of safe, evidence-based practice.

  • Lead and develop innovative pharmacy services, including the creation of treatment guidelines, clinical pathways, and medicines optimisation strategies.

  • Support seamless transitions of care between hospital and community settings, ensuring continuity and improving patient outcomes.

  • Mentor and train junior pharmacists, pharmacy technicians along with our trainee staff, including pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. fostering a culture of learning and professional growth.

  • Contribute to research, clinical audits, and service evaluations to drive improvements.

  • Horizon scan for new therapies and service developments, ensuring safe, effective, and cost-efficient use of medicines.

  • Represent the pharmacy service at Trust and directorate-level meetings, ensuring specialist pharmacy priorities are recognised and delivered.

  • MPharm Degree (or equivalent)
  • Higher degree / Postgraduate Diploma in General Pharmacy Practice, or equivalent experience
  • GPhC registration
  • GPhC registered non-medical prescriber

  • Recognised postgraduate qualification with a research component, or equivalent published evidence
