Job summary

The post-holder is responsible for providing dedicated support and management of the portfolio of education and events products which we currently deliver with a special focus on expanding our offer to Pharmaceutical companies through the overseas preceptorships and disease state academies programme.

The post holder will support the Head of Commercial Education and Events in providing pharmaceutical industry expertise and business acumen to support the Trust in delivering the commercial education and events strategy and is expected to lead multi-disciplinary teams from across directorates in achieving targets and objectives.

The role will provide a high level of operational delivery of all courses, conferences and events to ensure the Commercial Events Service maintains its high standards and will be required to lead and manage multi-disciplinary teams to identify new opportunities, achieve set goals and objectives.

The post holder will develop and oversee reporting to all clinical groups on the status of the business, the forecast and delivery of all events and education programmes, support and enable senior managers, clinicians, partners and directors.

The role is expected to provide leadership directly and indirectly for the Commercial Education and Events team and support and identity resources needed to enable project delivery.

Main duties of the job

Ensure the development and implementation of a strong portfolio of commercial educational offers to UK market and International Markets.

To support the Head of Education and Events, take a lead on the development, growth, co-ordination and production of our current offer to the Pharmaceutical Industry including preceptorships, observerships as well as training and development packages.

Ensure that a pipeline of activity is planned to ensure ongoing delivery of the Commercial and Education strategy.

Identify new opportunities for the development of the services arising from changes in the external environment or internal innovation and potential threats and ways to respond to them

Support work with key stakeholders in Commercial teams and across the Trust to ensure a balanced portfolio that reflects the Trusts strategic priorities and delivers against budget.

Lead on business investment meetings, trade shows to increase opportunities, grow revenue and increase market share.

Work closely with the Clinical Groups to lead on development and improvement of new service lines and identify new commercial education opportunities.

Ensure that the commercial education & events team is managed effectively on a day to day basis to deliver to the highest standards.

Ensure that an appropriate and rigorous decision-making process is in place for prioritising and accepting commercial education and events offers within the portfolio.

Regularly review all departmental processes and procedures to ensure maximum efficiency and return on resources, including adapting and changing where required and identify operational and process gaps, streamline delivery and ensure more efficient delivery costs.

Ensure that the team delivers a comprehensive and high quality end to end service that covers all aspects of every event or project including post event analysis.

Conduct high level negotiations with customers, suppliers and statutory bodies.

Ensure regular open meetings and a consistent method of communication at all levels, across all disciplines and professional boundaries.

Financial management

Ensure that project related business plans are underpinned by detailed and robust financial plans through budget planning and negotiation of appropriate budgets.

Manage a delegated budget for own area of work to ensure best value for money, including signing off invoices, monitoring expenditure and providing budgetary reports.

Actively monitor expenditure against budget and address problems at an early stage.

Ensure accurate and meaningful activity and performance data is available, working with both operational and specialty leads and relevant financial and legal services. This includes presentation of regular feedback reports to the Head of Non-Clinical Finance and Clinical Group leaders and Executives as required.

As directed to undertake detailed analysis of variances as required, highlighting opportunities or areas of risk.

Support the Commercial Head of Education and Events in maintaining effective management processes to ensure financial income and expenditure control.

Ensure that events that are accepted by the team are in line with the agreed priorities and that they are appropriately costed, with an appropriate margin and therefore profitable for the Trust.

Staff and stakeholder management

Drive creativity and innovation across the team to ensure clinician needs are understood and expectations are met or exceeded

Manage the events team ensuring that they meet their set objectives and that staff have opportunities to fulfil their potential through training and development.

Ensure that staff (including contractors and interims) understand their objectives and departmental performance expectations. Monitoring staff capability and take remedial action when required.

Identify staff training and development needs of all staff in the span of control, ensuring all team members have a regularly updated Personal Development Plan, are regularly appraised and their mandatory training is updated and are appropriately supervised.

Accurately forecast future business and work load requirements in terms of changes in educational offering and level of support required.

Ensure the team have an appropriate skill mix and justify/recruit staff members as required.

Address areas of performance to ensure team members achieve the highest quality standards and meet professional requirements.

Service: Business Development:
