Cancer Research Fellow in Colorectal Surgery

Job summary

This fellowship involves working alongside the Colorectal cancer team and has the responsibilities which includes, running two week rule clinics, including virtual clinic (VC) and telephone assessment clinic (TAC), attending the colorectal cancer multi-disciplinary team meeting and liaising with pre-habilitative services to ready patients for surgery. There will also be patient databases to keep updated and opportunity to perform research in these areas.

St Thomas' has seven colorectal surgeons providing tertiary level care in a variety of benign and colorectal cancer conditions. The colorectal unit is a tertiary referral unit for the South East of England for colorectal cancer and advanced colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and pelvic floor. The colorectal cancer surgical department includes four consultants and regular MDMs held with the wider clinical team.

Main duties of the job

o

oTo provide x 2, F2F, x 2 VC and x 2 TAC clinics per week

o To conduct research on colorectal cancer to improve patient experience and outcomes.

o To participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care

o To participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training

o Attend weekly MDM

About us

St Thomas' has seven colorectal surgeons providing tertiary level care in a variety of benign and colorectal cancer conditions. The St Thomas Colorectal Unit has particular interests in inflammatory bowel disease surgery with about 80 resections performed each year. There is a strong robotic surgery programme with patients undergoing operations for both cancer and benign disease, including inflammatory bowel disease. The Pelvic floor unit is a tertiary referral unit for the South East of England and with regular MDMs held with the urologists and gynaecologists. The colorectal unit also performs a number of multivisceral resections for advanced and recurrent colorectal cancer in conjunction with the plastics and urological teams.
