The posts is 1 x 0.2 WTE Senior Clinical Fellowship (SpR level) in Occupational Lung Disease, Respiratory Medicine. The post is available from October 2025 for a period of 12 months.

Accountability

In respect of the Fellowship contract, the post holders will be professionally accountable to the Medical Director and managerially accountable through the Clinical Director of the Lung Division to the Chief Executive.

Professional and Clinical Duties of the Post

The post is 0.2WTE (1 day per week on a Monday in line with the activity of our clinical service)

This post offers the opportunity for a specialist trainee (ST4 or above in respiratory medicine) - or applicant looking to broaden their experience prior to completion of specialist training/entry onto the specialist register - for focused subspeciality experience in Occupational Lung Disease in a world-renowned specialist centre. There are ample opportunities to become involved in our research and quality improvement and clinical audit.

The post is ideally suited to doctors wishing to gain further subspeciality experience in respiratory medicine in occupational lung disease, perhaps with a view to consultant posts in respiratory medicine.

Teaching and Research

The Fellow is expected to play a full role in the weekly clinical meeting and outpatient clinic. Emphasis is placed on education and training through clinical practice, teaching of others and presentations.

Main duties of the job

Main Duties & Responsibilities

1. To deliver patient care with the support of and in discussion with the consultants before and after outpatient appointments.

2. To ensure that good communications are maintained with all colleagues, including nursing, administrative and laboratory staff in the service, the wider Trust teams and our referrers, to the benefit of the patient.

3. To ensure that all medical records are kept up to date and complete and that investigations are ordered and results followed up in a timely manner.

Duties - Professional

1. To take a history, examine and record all findings of all patients seen in the outpatient clinic.

2. Carry out and arrange all relevant investigations.

3. To keep the consultants informed of any patient who is giving cause for concern.

4. To communicate with patient, their carers and their referrers and/or local teams as required.

5. To participate in research projects that may already be in progress.

6. To participate in presenting to others e.g. nurses, clinical observers, medical students.7. To participate in quality improvement and audit as required.

8. To accept that occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances may occur, and to respond to the needs of the service when they arise.
