Job summary

The post holder will provide assistance to the Trust Waste Manager and the wider Sustainability team in the provision of an efficient, sustainable and cost-effective waste management service to the Trust and in ensuring that the Trust is fully compliant with all aspects of the Waste Regulations and in accordance with appropriate legislation and guidance, both externally and internally, such as the Trust Waste Management Policy Procedures and HTM 07-01.

Responsible for providing the day to day monitoring of the services provided by all waste management service providers to ensure that they meet the requirements described in the Waste Service Level Specifications and KPIs. Delivering change, improving service delivery and exploring better ways of generating savings and/or income as per proposed cost savings target. The post holder should also remain aware of innovations within the waste industry and assisting in the running and evaluation of trials etc., with a view to expanding successful trials across the IPC

Participate in the meeting of the Trust's sustainability and environmental strategies and plans, monitoring and initiating action appropriate in relation to waste and to the effective development and management of the Trust. To encourage correct waste segregation across all KCH sites.

Main duties of the job

Governance/ Quality Control

Provide day to day assistance to the Trust Waste Manager in ensuring the compliance of waste legislations, Trust Waste Management Policy Procedures, Waste Service Level Specification and ensure compliance with HTM 07-01: Safe and sustainable waste management in health and social care.

Reporting and Analysis

Prepare and present regular reports for the Trust Waste Manager detailing the performance of each area of contracted service provision

Monthly record keeping as per Service Level Specification.

Provide relevant information to the Trust Waste Manager to enable records of the performance of the contracted services to be provided to the Trust when required or via appropriate portal.

Financial Management

Assist with the monitoring and maintenance of financial compliance within standing financial instructions.

Administrative Responsibilities

Instigate and attend meetings as specified in the Service Level Specifications and KPI's. Ensure that these are minuted and a copy of minutes provided to all parties.

Education and Training

In collaboration with the Trust Waste Manger, develop and implement a waste management training programme and awareness sessions. This will include developing the content of the training and ensuring that staff within the Trust have received appropriate training.

Ensure that any new government legislation or initiatives are implemented and relevant policies and procedures are updated.

Contribute to the bi-annual review and update of the Trusts Waste Management Policy Procedure.

Assist in providing the Environmental Sustainability Manager with all required waste documentation and supporting evidence for the Environmental Management System (EMS) at Kings.

Lead on the continuous improvement of EMS waste processes in close collaboration with the waste contractor(s).

Be part of the regular EMS audit team and provide assistance during EMS site visits.

Duty of Care (DoC) management for all departments including auditing and performance reporting (annually for wards/ departments) using the NPAG System.

Duty of Care (Doc) annual pre-acceptance audits for all wards and departments. Create and maintain accurate computer records of all audits undertaken for reference purposes.

Shared responsibility with the Trust Waste Manager for the overall management of all waste streams generated within the Trust. To ensure that waste is segregated at source.

Quality Assurance Monitoring.

Ensure a high standard of health and safety and operational compliance.

Assist with the formulation of Specifications and KPIs and policies to enable the contract services to be managed in an efficient and sustainable manner.

Manage the day to day operational aspects of the waste contract, including storage, collection and disposal of waste and consigning of waste.

Establish criterion for assessment in order to measure standards of performance and to take appropriate proactive/corrective action when standards are not being achieved.

Work closely with colleagues from the Essentia Sustainability team to achieve its goals as outlined in the Kings Green plan, including waste segregation targets.

Provide expert specialist and professional waste expertise and advice to colleagues at all levels of the Trust and external agencies.

To ensure that risk assessments are in place to cover all duties undertaken by the waste team.

Represent the Trust Waste Manager at internal meetings during periods of absence.

Ensure all incidents and accidents are reported in line with Trust policies and that appropriate action is taken.

Assist the Trust Waste Manager on tender processes for waste contracts, to include undertaking site visits of prospective contractors. Assist in the implementation and mobilisation of new waste contracts or any associated strategies for the optimisation of waste management.
