Applications are invited for a full time post of a Paediatric and Neonatal surgeon at Guy's & St. Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.
You are invited to apply for one of two locum Consultant posts in Paediatric and Neonatal Surgery. One is to cover a substantive colleague on a prolonged period of leave. This post has a specialist interest in Lower GI/Colorectal surgery. The other is a new post being created to allow existing members of the department to take up outside opportunities. Both posts are based at the Evelina London Children's Hospital but also include outreach activity in partner hospitals and will commence as soon as possible.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for the following:
Diagnosis and treatments of patients of the Trust in such hospitals, health centres or clinics or other premises as required.
Continuing clinical responsibility for the patients in your charge, allowing for all proper delegation to, and training of, your staff.
The post holder must be medically qualified and maintain GMC specialist registration and hold a license to practice.
To develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post. To ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care programmed activities. To ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views.
Where possible to collaborate with academic and clinical colleagues to enhance the Trust's translational research portfolio, at all times meeting the full requirements of Research Governance.
To provide high quality teaching to medical undergraduates and members of other health care professions as required by the Clinical Director.
To act as educational supervisor and appraiser as delegated by the Clinical Director to ensure external accreditation of training post.
About us
The department functions as part of a network of children's service providers and offers a wide range of outpatient services across the South East, in particular at Lewisham Hospital and Darent Valley, where the surgical team also perform day case surgery. Successful applicants will undertake outreach outpatient clinics at affiliated network DGHs and day case surgery at Lewisham Hospital.

- Full Uk GMC registration
- Fellowship of a surgical Royal College or affiliated body or equivalent
- Possession of APLS (or equivalent)

- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT in Paediatric Surgery (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview)

Clinical Experience
Essential
- Experience in tertiary Paediatric Surgery within large teaching hospitals
- Experience of managing children with surgical issues in the context of multi-system conditions including congenital cardiac disease, renal disease, and neurological and metabolic conditions
- Evidence of continuing medical education (existing consultants must demonstrate active participation in CPD)
- Lower GI surgical experience
- Willingness and ability to develop, lead and deliver specific clinical services
Desirable
- Consultant -level experience in Paediatric Surgery.
- Dedicated sub- Speciality training, e.g. post CCT fellowship
