Job summary

The Department of Oral Medicine is seeking a new full-time (6 PAs) Consultant in Oral Medicine to join a dynamic, enthusiastic and forward-thinking team. The department is currently involved in many exciting initiatives and is looking for an individual with the appropriate skills to complement our team and to help keep our service at the forefront of clinical and academic excellence. The Department offers a wide range of services to patients with oral mucosal conditions, oral manifestations of systemic diseases and chronic orofacial pain. The new Consultant will help manage and develop these services across Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals. The post-holder will undertake general outpatient sessions along with supporting the well-established multi-disciplinary clinics.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide a Consultant-led specialist Oral Medicine service
  • Participate in clinical and other service activities with the objective ofensuring a high standard of patient care including a significant contributionto gathering data to demonstrate outcomes for our patients at Trust, localand national levels
  • Have an active role in the clinical supervision, training and education ofDental Core Trainees and Specialty Trainees as well as Specialty Dentists
  • Contribute to the clinical supervision of undergraduates and assist in the delivery of courses throughout the BDS programme
  • Participate in training and education of postgraduate students
  • Contribute to the development and management of quality improvementprojects and clinical audit within the department
  • Ensure that referral to treatment times for patients comply with therequirements of the Department of Health
  • Contribute to departmental clinical research

    Performance Management

    The post holder must work with medical / dental, nursing and managerial colleagues to ensure high performance in the following areas:

    Maintain clinical efficiency e.g. LOS reductions, reducing cancelledoperations and DNA rates Participate in financial management e.g. identification, implementation and achievement of cost improvement programmes to ensure services are provided cost effectively e.g. managing locum agency spend, monitoringand managing the drug budget to target, ensuring accuracy of clinical data for the team Help to improve operational efficiency e.g. waiting list activity and demand management
