The RBHH Structural Interventional Team
Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals are the largest specialist heart and lung centre in the UK. The transcatheter mitral and tricuspid structural heart program is one of the most established, and amongst the highest procedural volumes within the UK.
The Royal Brompton Hospital is the only MitraClip Centre of Excellence in the United Kingdom and is the largest volume MitraClip centre with over 500 MitraClips, and almost 1000 TEER procedures performed to date. There is a comprehensive range of transcatheter mitral and tricuspid interventional procedures offered by an experienced team which includes transcatheter edge-to-edge repair, transcatheter mitral and tricuspid valve replacements and Neochord.
The team undertook >160 transcatheter mitral and tricuspid procedures in 2024. The team have an active research and clinical trial portfolio, offering novel treatment options to a complex patient population; working alongside the TAVI structural program across both sites.
Main duties of the job
I. To participate and assist in the running of Structural Heart (Mitral/Tricuspid) clinical team in both Outpatient and inpatient clinical settings cross-site
II. Training and working under the supervision of structural interventional cardiologists including regular sessions in the catheterization laboratory, participating and contribute to Heart team meetings, attend specialist structural clinics for pre- and post-procedural patient assessment and selection
III. To undertake relevant clinical research and audit projects towards novel scientific reporting and clinical service improvement

Training in expert diagnosis and management of adult patients with valvular heart disease
Training in performance of structural cardiac interventions, specifically transcatheter mitral and tricuspid valve procedures, and to develop proficiency as a primary operator
Develop expertise in case selection, procedural judgment, and technical ability for structural cardiac interventions
Demonstratecompetency with preprocedure evaluation, timely and informative reporting of results and therapeutic recommendations
Develop into an educator in the field and to serve as a valuable resource in their community
Detailed schedule
The proposed Structural Interventional fellowship will encompass high volume structural interventional exposure, training as a primary operator; focusing on Mitral & Tricuspid Intervention, with opportunities to undertake a broad base of other Structural Intervention as outlined in the Learning Objectives. The fellowship will be undertaken cross-site at Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals in line with the teams clinical activities.
The appointed fellow will have general Cardiology on call and ward cover commitments as part of the Specialty Registrar rota.
