Job summary

Paul Wood Ward is a 30 bedded inpatient cardiology ward which specialises in caring for patients with coronary heart disease, valvular disease, cardiac arrhythmias, pulmonary hypertension, congenital heart disease and heart failure.

We are looking for experienced cardiology nurses who are knowledgeable, possess emotional resilience, a calm temperament, and the ability to work under pressure, demonstrate excellent clinical nursing and a willingness to learn and develop new skills , who puts the patients at the centre of all they do.

The applicant(s) must have the relevant cardiology knowledge and skill necessary to support the team.

The Directorate will offer development that can be tailored to the successful candidates/s and include both leadership and clinical components.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work closely with the Ward Manager and multi-disciplinary team members in monitoring and maintaining excellent clinical standards of nursing practice and staff development as part of the ward team.

Act as a team leader ensuring the needs of the patients are met.

To take charge of the clinical areas as required. Which includes Paul Wood ward, York Ward and the Squire Day care centre.

To be responsible for the continuing professional development and overall performance of all junior staff, with the support of their senior colleagues.

The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision and is required to demonstrate procedures, supervise qualified and/or unqualified staff whilst maintaining a safe working environment.

To be flexible in the approach to the clinical area and provide cover according to level of experience for any area specified.

  • The postholder will be accountable for their nursing practice, adhere to the policies and protocols of the Trust and the NMC, and have a responsibility for their own personal and professional development.
