Job summary

Are you an experienced Senior Category Manager looking to join an ambitious team in one of the most complex and large NHS Trusts in the UK. The Senior Category Manager will lead the Capital equipment team. As a senior member in a newly established position, you will play a key role in developing and implementing the new Procurement and Supply Chain operating model and strategy across Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation and the 'Smart Together' Shared Service for corporate services procurement.

We are looking for a forward-thinking and innovative Senior Category Manager to head up our Capital equipment procurement category and deliver a large, complex, and demanding capital equipment procurement program. In this role, you will develop our commercial approach through Category Management and Strategic Sourcing. Collaborating with the senior leadership team, you will foster a positive and high-performing culture by building trust and accountability with all team members.

Main duties of the job

Reporting to the Associate Director of Capital Procurement & Contracts and being part of their leadership team.

Leading change with innovative procurement practices and ensuring optimum procurement approaches to drive out costs and improve patient care.

Providing specialist, expert procurement advice and support to stakeholders.

Developing and managing the vital link between stakeholders and procurement.

Engaging with multi-functional teams at all levels across Guy's and St Thomas' and the Shared Service.

Working closely with stakeholders, including clinicians, service managers, suppliers, professional associations, partner organisations, and system colleagues.

Leading capital procurement programs and supporting the implementation of category and sourcing strategies across a complex procurement project portfolio.

Providing oversight and reporting in respect of medical equipment procurement and other capital programmes to governance forums and finance colleagues.

The post holder will be positive, forward thinking and resilient and will be able to manage competing priorities. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate their experience in medical equipment procurement, have strong interpersonal skills, be highly adept at delivering procurement projects, have a strong customer focused approach and broad commercial acumen.

Essential

  • Educated to Master's degree level, MCIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement& Supply) or equivalent experience in business, procurement or supply chain.
  • In-depth knowledge of commercial contract management, contract management best practice, and public sector contract legislation. Knowledge of Government Best Practice in Contract Management.

Desirable

  • Relevant project management and / or qualification such as APMP or PRINCE 2. Legal background / knowledge in contract law
  • Possession of relevant qualifications such as RICS, MRICS, or equivalent, with specialisation in contract management or commercial management.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience in management within the NHS or public sector.
  • Knowledge of NHS procurement regulations and policies.
  • Extensive experience in programme management and delivering large-scale projects.
  • Experience in being responsible for financial resources including budgeting for a major area, budget setting and monitoring.
