Main duties of the job
Playing a key role in the day to day operational delivery of occupational health services to the Trust and commercial service users, ensuring high standards of service delivery and quality standards are met, including:
Fitness for work and pre-commencement health assessments
Sickness absence case management
Management of body fluid exposures
Infection prevention and control advice to staff
Contributing to policy and strategy development
Supporting the development and training of junior staff and students.

Essential
- Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues including NHS /DH /HSE legislation.
- Ability to assess patients/service users presenting to Occupational Health and to plan and provide specialist advice dependent upon their particular health care need and work related issues.
- Supervisory experience of junior members of a team.
- Ability to be able to decide how best to achieve expected results, whilst acting within clearly defined policies/ procedures and codes of conduct.
- Proficient IT skills including Microsoft Office.
- Experience of undertaking audit or nursing research.
- Ability to organise, prioritise & coordinate own work
Desirable
- Knowledge of travel health advice and immunisations.
- Knowledge of occupational health provision to commercial services.
Previous Experience
Essential
- Substantial post registration nursing experience in an acute setting.
- Substantial occupational health experience.
- Supervision of junior staff.
- Experience of coordinating clinics and service requirements.
- Experience of independently undertaking absence management assessment / advice and pre-commencement health assessment (and able to demonstrate competency).
Desirable
- NHS Occupational Health experience.
- Experience of independently undertaking body fluid exposure management, contact tracing / infection control advice and immunity screening assessment.
Qualifications/Education

- BSc/1st degree (health related) or equivalent qualification/training and experience.
- Evidence of ongoing professional and academic development in relevant area.

- NEBOSH certificate.
- Health Education.
- Mentorship/Teaching Qualification.
- Management qualification or equivalent experience.
- Post registration qualification in Occupational Health e.g. SCPHN (or currently undertaking a formal qualification in this area).
