Job summary
To provide a highly specialised and autonomous clinical perfusion service to patients and other members of the multidisciplinary team within the cardiothoracic directorate. In addition this post requires the management and service delivery, from a clinical perfusion aspect, of the directorate's extra corporeal membrane oxygenation service (ECMO).
Lead and manage the development of perfusion practice to enhance the patient care pathway for patients requiring ECMO therapy. This will include working with staff of all disciplines, developing a perfusion vision and strategy for ECMO therapy in the Trust.

Job summary:
As the lead clinical perfusion scientist for ECMO you will be responsible for the delivery, management and training of the paediatric and adult ECMO service including VV ECMO for the nationally commissioned severe acute respiratory failure service (SARF) retrieval service, the proposed VA-ECMO service, and long term assist devices.
As an accredited clinical perfusion scientist you will be part of a dynamic team providing extra corporeal circulation to all patients undergoing cardiac surgery.
The post holder is expected to provide highly specialised and autonomous clinical perfusion services to both adult and paediatric patients.
As the lead specialist clinical perfusion scientist for ECMO, and in conjunction with both a multidisciplinary team and the head of perfusion, provide expert teaching, training and supervision to unqualified trainee perfusionists, new qualified, and senior clinical perfusionists on the management and care of patients requiring ECMO therapy.

Department Information
The Royal Brompton's Department of Clinical Perfusion provides perfusion services for both adult & paediatric cardiac surgery. The current combined caseload is 1200 cases per annum across 5 theatres.
In addition, the Department provides perfusion cover for Trans Aortic Valve Implantation, intra operative cell salvage, intra aortic balloon pump therapy, complex aortic surgery and Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), including our ECMO retrieval service.
The Department provides a 24 hour, 7 days a week, non - resident on call service for adult & paediatric cardiac emergencies and ECMO.
