Job responsibilities

Education/Staff Development

Identify training and development needs of multidisciplinary clinical teams across the network in accordance with local and national policies to develop confidence and competence of staff caring for CYP on LTV, and improve patient safety

Develop resources to support the education and training for clinicians across the network

Provide motivation, mentoring and coaching to a broad range of health professionals to increase confidence and competence

Create a climate of research awareness to encourage evidence-based practice

Support the team in the provision of regular online or face to face local and relevant teaching and training sessions to support the clinical work streams

Take an active role within the network working groups to develop standards, guidelines and related training

To be a source of knowledge in regard to education for healthcare professional which can be adapted for use in various work streams and across professions

To have a breadth of clinical knowledge pertaining to paediatric acute care and the ability to adapt this skill and knowledge to cater for specialist pathway needs

To act as an advocate for patients within the network by ensuring that education and training in centres is high quality, and delivers safe care meeting standards within the NHS Plan and other relevant guidelines

To ensure that network educational activities embrace and enhance care that is inclusive of all religious beliefs, ethnic backgrounds, disabilities and cultures

Recognise and avoid situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the individuals

Assist in the provision of training programmes for a broad range of clinicians to expand their clinical skills

Support the review and development of the annual educational, training, development plans. Acting as representative in the course management and curricula development forums and liaise with Higher Education Institutes in order to present future needs and requirements and be familiar with the educational needs for the network staff

Work with local and national bodies, and other educators to contribute to standard setting and benchmarking for nursing and other clinical practice

Participate in the training of staff to monitor the quality of care delivered using clinical standards and takes necessary action to ensure excellence in nursing practice. Bases standards upon relevant research where possible

Participate in Individual Performance Review of staff when appropriate using the Scope of Professional Practice

Assist in the accurate collection of data relating to staff training data, and any other data that may be reasonably requested for audit purposes. Protects patient confidentiality and acts according to the Data Protection Act

Identify barriers to learning and develops mitigations especially in consideration with working across a large geographical region

Assist in maintaining a Risk log and disseminating learning from risks/ incidents across the Pan Thames region

Assist in maintaining and developing the Education content for the Pan Thames Website for both professionals and parents/ carers

To be accountable for care given and comply with the relevant post holders professional Code of Conduct, working within the framework of the relevant scope of professional practice

To ensure compliance and implementation of local and national policies and procedures, relevant legislation, health professional body strategy and Clinical Governance standards are understood and practised by staff

Practises in accordance with the professional direction as stipulated in the Trusts strategy

To take personal responsibility for promoting a safe environment and safe patient care by identifying areas of risk and following the Incident, Serious Incident and Near Misses reporting procedure

Have a visible presence within the network clinical settings

Is responsible for own professional development and an awareness of clinical educational developments. Agrees own personal, professional and service objectives according to Individual Performance Review with Manager

Actively disseminate research findings as a positive role model through lectures, teaching and other appropriate communication methods

Assist in the bench marking of nursing practice and evaluate the impact on new practices implemented

Communicates expertly with staff across all areas of the Network

Regularly produces reports related to training and education across the network for the Programme Board, Commissioner work stream reports, network trusts etc

Develops, maintains and monitors education and training aspects of the Programme website

Submits relevant articles to recognised journals or presentations at relevant conferences and encourages and assists others in doing so

Responsible for monitoring performance against competency requirements

Participates in the selection, interviewing and recruitment of staff and in staff retention by promoting professional and personal growth of staff

Has an awareness of business planning procedure within the Pan Thames LTV programme

Facilitates the sharing of best practice both within Pan Thames and externally with local and national organisations.

Person Specification

Education/ Qualifications

Essential

• Educated to degree level, and hold active professional registration (e.g. NMC,HCPC) as allied health professional or practitioner psychologist
• Evidence of continuous personal, professional and academic development

Desirable

• Postgraduate Certificate in Education or equivalent experience

Previous experience

Essential

• Experience of caring for children and young people requiring Long Term Ventilation
• Significant post registration experience within the speciality
• Experience of designing, delivering and evaluating educational resources /training sessions / programmes and working with other educators
• Experience of involvement in educational initiatives
• Experience of working within multi-professional teams and across sites

Desirable

• Experience of mentoring and coaching/ supervising/ assessing clinicians in practice

Skills/Knowledge / Ability

Essential

• Clinical knowledge of LTV/tracheostomy care with a robust understanding of the complexities of LTV/tracheostomy care.
• Understanding of the principles of teaching and learning and their application within the practice setting
• Understanding and knowledge of curriculum design and development.
• Knowledge of a variety of teaching methods delivered remotely or in person.
• Excellent time management and organisational skills
• Ability to analyse, evaluate and report educational and training outcomes
• Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal & communication skills
• Ability to travel across North London and to the neighbouring Trusts in the East of England

Desirable

• Knowledge of local, regional and national policies pertaining to practice experience and education
