Job summary
We are excited to be advertising this new role within POST, Dimbleby Cancer Care for a practitioner psychologist dedicated to supporting the needs of cancer patients having surgery. The role will be informed by the enhanced recovery and rehabilitation framework which facilitate timely access to the psychology service. And will build on the foundational work developed by the psychologist who previously worked within the upper and lower GI cancer surgery team. The aim of the role is to offer specialised, timely, and patient-centred psychological support to effectively contribute to a person's overall well-being and surgical recovery in Gastro-Intestinal (GI) and building into others areas: lung and gynaecology. You will provide staff supervision, consultation, training where identified as needed. And there will time dedicated to conduct audit, service evaluation and research within the week.
Main duties of the job
The role will focus on cancer patient needs, timing of surgical treatment and informed by relevant psychological theory and approaches, adjustment, attachment, trauma & trauma informed care, and preventative psychology. In particular we are keen for the post-holder to develop trauma informed care approaches for people with cancer and staff, e.g. audit, evaluation, and developing training initiatives. In addition, you will provide management and supervision support to qualified psychological practitioners.
The post sits within POST, Dimbleby cancer care, operational structures, and will be an integral part of our team. However, the role is a new model and approach to our service. The intention is for the postholder to outreach into and deliver psychological support within designated surgical teams and pathways, contributing to prehabilitation surgical support. It will provide inpatient and outpatient support. It is an exciting and challenging role which will be suited to someone who wants the autonomy to develop, create and integrate psychological support within the surgical pathway, to collaborate with the wider medical, nursing and AHP teams involved, and to create new pathways for POST, pathways into the wider POST team psychology offers and broader Dimbleby service teams.
