Job summary

We are currently a small team within Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust caring for patients referred with gynaecological problems within the Surgical Oncology Directorate.

We have been given an exciting opportunity to expand the service to increase capacity for patientsand to bring waiting times down.

We are looking for a kind, caring and enthusiastic Band 5 Staff Nurse to join the team and support the Colposcopy and Rapid Access Gynaecology Services at Guy's Hospital in the Out-Patient environment.

Main duties of the job

A key role in supporting the Colposcopy and Rapid Access Clinic teams.

Provide a link between the two departments to promote safe and efficient

care to those using the service.

Ensure clinics are organised, appropriately staffed and safe for patients

and clinicians.

Assist with Colposcopy and Rapid Access Gynaecology Procedures.

Support patients throughout their pathway acting as patient advocate where necessary.

Provide clinical advice and guidance with appropriate training.

Ensure failsafe processes are carried out efficiently and accurately.

General management and organisation of the department.

Team management and support including staff rota and PDRs for junior staff.

Undertake Cervical Screening Sample Taker training to provide Nurse-Led Cytology clinics.

At times they will have management responsibility for being in-charge of the department and supervising junior members of staff.

Essential

  • RN1/ RN2/ RN12 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register. To hold the appropriate level for the area of speciality.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable

  • Cervical Screening Sample taker
  • Teaching & assessing qualification

Previous Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working on own and in a team
  • Experiencing of co-ordinating a shift
  • Experience of working in the relevant area

Desirable

  • Previous experience in gynaecology

  • Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues.
