Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and highly motivated pharmacy technician looking for a new challenge to develop their career in a hospital pharmacy setting.

If you are seeking to expand your clinical skills and help to improve patient's satisfaction and make a difference within Guys and St Thomas' NHS Trust, then this is your ideal job.The post offers a chance to contribute to the continued development of pharmacy services to the Cardiovascular Pharmacy Team.

The post is suitable for a team player who is sensitive to the needs of service users. You will require excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The role is embedded in the ward teams by supporting our nurses and pharmacists to resolve any medicines management issues.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for providing a safe, efficient and accurate ward-based pharmacy service by liaising closely with pharmacists, nursing and medical staff. This role will help you to develop Medicines Optimisation and Patient Counselling skills.

You may also be required to support the Inpatients Pharmacy as an ACPT two hours a week. Therefore, a systematic and flexible approach to working is an essential requirement.

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ L3 Diploma in Pharmacy Service Skills (QCF) plus L3 QCF Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science or GPhC accredited equivalent or GPhC equivalents prior to July 2011
  • Completion of the Accreditation Checking Pharmacy Technician Scheme (ACPT)
  • London Pharmacy Education and Training - Technician Self Development Programme - Stage 2 or equivalent
  • Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)

Desirable

  • A1 workplace Assessor or working towards Practice Supervisor, Train the trainer or equivalent qualification
  • Medicine Management Accreditation or equivalent
