Job summary

Guys and St. Thomas NHS Foundation Trust are looking to recruit 7 Healthcare security officers and 2 Healthcare team leaders, to join an industry wide respected and diverse team. GSTT is one of London's most famous hospitals and prominent London landmarks - largely due to St Thomas' Hospital location opposite the Houses of Parliament and Guy's Hospital next to London Bridge station and opposite the Shard.

The role requires applicants to professionally negotiate the challenging demands of healthcare security in a busy 24/7 London hospital. If you care about people, their wellbeing and are able to cope with the challenges of a busy hospital environment, this could be for you.

We are looking to support our community with determined, kind, customer service focused and hard-working individuals from all backgrounds. Customer service experience, verbal and written English language and computer skills are essential to join the team.

The healthcare security officers are paid at NHS Band 4 (put in salary range) and the Healthcare security team leader are paid at NHS Band 5 (put in salary range).

Shift patterns are 4 on 4 off, 12-hour shifts spanning days, nights and weekends.

Extensive training will be provided to all successful candidates.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1.1. Day-to-day administration, instruction and supervision of Healthcare Security officers whilst they are performing their duty.

1.2. Supervise the performance and quality of the Security Officers and address relevant training to management.

1.3. To ensure that the team maintain all equipment and uniform supplied to you in a clean and presentable manner, full uniform must be worn at all times while on duty in the line with the uniform protocol

1.4. Lead on the security response to all fire alert calls, taking action in line with the Trust fire procedures, to minimise the risk to life and assets. To ensure fire escape routes are clear and equipment are in working order and fully accessible at all times and current relevant fire legislation is being complied with.

1.5. Attend and liaise to calls for security assistance from Departmental or ward staff or Mental Health teams to assist with patients being held or assessed under the mental health Act.

1.6. To assist in the induction and training of all new security Healthcare Security Officer using the Local Induction Checklist

1.7. Assist Management with Investigations under the Trust Disciplinary Policy.

1.8. Present and co-ordinate Crime prevention talks to departmental staff and at the Local Trust Induction

1.9. Ensure correct Greenwich Mean Times are aligned to all security systems clock times to security systems, including CCTV, Access Control and Car Parking database.

1.10. Manage unplanned staff absences to ensure the roster operates with the minimum use of overtime and staff bank/agency.

1.11. Ensure that the security staffs are fully conversant with the operation of all fire and major incident instructions and exercises.

1.12. Actively monitor sickness and absence of security officers and implement the Trust policy for sickness management in conjunction with security management. This will involve return to work sick/absence reviews.

1.13. To ensure all incidents are reported, logged and investigated. All crimes reported to, or discovered by the Security Service will be investigated by them and/or the Metropolitan Police; this may include providing them with written MG11 statement forms, depending upon the circumstances.

1.14. To carry out initial risk assessments after the security officers initial investigation for crime reduction/prevention. This will improve the safety for the staff, patients and property

1.15. To co-ordinate the response to intruder security alarms, inspect for signs of break-in, search for suspects, protect scene of crime and liaise with the Site nurse practitioners and/or the Metropolitan Police.

1.16. To ensure CCTV facility is monitored effectively and creating files for saved footage for both analogue and digital systems when used for evidence.

1.17. Access control systems to be maintained at all times and to ensure that security are correctly adding authorised personnel

1.18. Liaise with police, downloading from the system onto a DVD disc following Trust procedures, when obtaining CCTV footage for evidence required.

1.19. To lead on control access management systems and ensure all officers are trained accordingly.

1.20. Regular car parking audits of blue badge holders staff permit holders and to create/update data base for fraudulent car parking, liaising with management.

1.21. Creating a working partnership with Kings College London (KCL) security team by liaising with team and communicating/sharing local crime activity

1.22. Supervise the control and regulation of movement of traffic, parking of vehicles whilst on Trust property and enforcement of the parking policy including assisting the security parking officer. This includes issuing parking tickets on hand held machines and down load the information to the control room computer.

1.23. To keep all car parking machines in working order by maintaining or repairing and to report all faults to relevant security manager.

1.24. Ensure the hand over of car parking income from the control room till is checked with another officer and handed over to the next Team leader, reporting any discrepancies to management immediately.

1.25. Assist management with car parking cash collections

1.26. To ensure patrols of the grounds of Guys & St Thomas estate are undertaken effectively to protect the building and its contents from fire and theft.

1.27. To ensure that visitors are courteously received and directed in a manner that will reflect credit to the Trust.

1.28. To report any security defects or omissions throughout the Estate in a timely and accurate manner and keeping records to share with management.

1.29. Receive reports of lost property and accept found personal property for safe keeping and help maintain the register of lost and found property. All property to be taken to the security management office as soon as possible.

1.30. To ensure all staff on the shift are correctly dressed in line with the Trust uniform policy.

1.31. To ensure on a daily basis all written records of security duties are vetted for errors and omissions and delivered to the Trust Security Manager in a timely fashion.

1.32. To assist in ensuring that site contractor compounds are safe and secure, mostly out of hours.

1.33. Will assist with the promotion of safe working environment by raising awareness of potential risks and putting processes in place to help reduce risk against security staff and other NHS colleagues.

1.34. To ensure that all security officers are aware of trust and departmental polices procedures and protocols.

1.35. To supervise enforcement of the Trust's 'No Smoking Policy' by being tactful, diplomatic and assertive.

1.36. To supervise enforcement of the Trust's ID Badge Policy.
