PAEDIATRIC INFECTIOUS DISEASES CLINICAL FELLOW (ST4+)

Applications are invited for Senior Clinical Fellows in Paediatric Immunology & Infectious Diseases (PIID). The posts are based at the Evelina London Children's Hospital, Guys & St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust. In addition to supporting the clinical service the post holder will gain experience in research, education and quality improvement.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will join seven PIID consultants (4 WTE) and two Paediatric infectious diseases clinical fellows. The PIID team works closely with The Department of Infectious Diseases (The DoI - incorporating Virology & Microbiology sections) and the Department of Infection Prevention & Control (IPC). In total, the DoI has about 50 staff including 6 consultant virologists, 6 consultant microbiologists, 8 adult ID physicians, and several antimicrobial pharmacists.
The clinical PIID team deliver inpatient and outpatient care covering acute/complex infection, HIV, TB, congenital infection, inflammation (PIMS-TS, Kawasaki Disease & Fever), Antimicrobial stewardship (AMS), Paediatric outpatient parenteral antibiotic therapy (pOPAT), infection control and primary/secondary immunodeficiency clinics. In patients are reviewed at Evelina London Children's hospital and the Royal Brompton. Telephone advice is given to the other hospitals within the South East Thames network.

Evelina London Children's hospital
Every year Evelina London cares for around 104,000 children and young people across the Children's Hospital and community sites. There are over 155,000 outpatient visits, 30,000 emergency department attendances and 6,000 babies born each year. Specialist paediatric services include: cardiology, respiratory, gastroenterology, endocrinology, metabolic medicine, renal (including a large haemo- and peritoneal dialysis service and renal transplantation programme), allergy, haematology, neonatology, rheumatology, and haemoglobinopathy. There are two paediatric intensive care units including cardiac ICU, and Evelina is the home of the South Thames Retrieval Service (STRS). These services are supported by dedicated paediatric clinical support services including specialist pharmacy, play specialists, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech & language therapy, acute pain service, anaesthetics, clinical psychology, nutrition & dietetics, palliative care, radiology and nuclear medicine (including PET under general anaesthesia). We are one of a small number of hospitals with a paediatric ECMO service.
In 2026, Evelina will become the Primary Treatment Centre for paediatric cancer for South London, with children's services moving from the Royal Marsden Hospital, significantly expanding the range of immunocompromised children under the care of the Evelina.

Previous middle-grade paediatric experience is essential; previous research experience is not essential but desirable.
The post holder will have regular contact with vulnerable adults and/or children (0-18 years) and therefore this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Criminal Records Bureau to check for any previous criminal convictions.
