Main duties of the job

This is an excellent opportunity to join our dynamic glaucoma service within the eye department at Guys & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust in central London.This fellowship provides extensive clinical and surgical experience in the diagnosis and management of Glaucoma. Some prior experience in glaucoma for this postis essential. The post also involves a componentworking in eye emergency. The post has no on call commitment.

The glaucoma team see over 14,000 appointments a year providing a high quality service. The department is well equipped with modern equipment including OCT's, lasers and dedicated ophthalmic operating theatres.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Clinical

The post holder will, together with colleagues, be responsible for the provision of ophthalmic services to the Guys & St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust to include:

  • Diagnosis and treatment of patients in the glaucoma clinics.
  • Treatment of patients by the use of laser procedures.
  • To cover eye emergency when required.
  • To cover minor ops or theatre lists when required.

Training

All medical staff will be expected to participate & contribute to the training and support of doctors in training.

Clinical Governance

All medical and dental staff are expected to take part in clinical governance activity, including clinical audit, clinical guideline and protocol development and clinical risk management. They will be expected to produce evidence of their contribution in these areas and their audit of their own clinical work as part of their annual appraisal.

Appraisal

All medical and dental staff are required to undertake annual appraisal.
