Job summary

We are seeking an energetic, motivated and passionate Band 6 Occupational Therapist (OT) who is dedicated to implementing high quality evidence informed Occupational Therapy in a specialist Upper Limb management and intervention service.

This exciting post will be based in the paediatric OT team at the Evelina London Children's Hospital, St Thomas' Hospital site.

Main duties of the job

You will work with children and young people (0-16 years), with asymmetrical/unilateral or bilateral motor disorders including hemiparesis. You will also work with infants diagnosed with emerging movement difficulties and children with additional medical/neurodevelopmental conditions.

About us

You will receive individual supervision by senior specialist staff within the paediatric occupational therapy team, further supported by the clinical lead paediatric OT and professionally managed by the Trust Head OT.

You will be responsible for supporting the development of team members and occupational therapy students and will contribute to service development.

There will be opportunities to develop your skills and knowledge and participate in departmental audits, service improvement projects or research projects. We have a monthly professional development programme for all staff.

The successful applicant will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, as liaison with multi-disciplinary teams and with our community colleagues in health, education and social care is essential.

Job responsibilities

In this role you will provide specialist assessment, advice and implement evidence informed rehabilitation in partnership with parents and community-based therapists within the Evelina REACH services. Intervention modalities delivered across the service include bimanual therapy, hybrid model (involving modified constraint induced movement therapy (mCIMT) followed by bimanual therapy), upper limb pre-hab, rehab, splinting/casting and goal directed occupational therapy interventions. You will also be involved in tone management clinics within a multidisciplinary team (including the upper limb botulinum toxin-A injections pathway). Your role will require close liaison and partnership working with community therapy services and/or other appropriate agencies. You will support children to work towards meaningful goals focusing on functional skills and independence in areas of self-care, school work and leisure/play, alongside their families and local teams.
