Job summary
The Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology (DMFR) department is seeking fixed term full-time (10PA) Specialty Dentist to join a dynamic, enthusiastic and forward-thinking team. The department is currently involved in many exciting initiatives and are looking for an individual(s) with appropriate skills to complement this team and help keep the service in the forefront of clinical and academic excellence.
The post holder(s) will be expected to show drive and initiative towards patient care putting the patient first. They will be based within the Dental and Maxillofacial Radiology services and may be asked to undertake a range of treatments including: cone beam CT reporting and ultrasound which will initially include training and direct supervision by the team of DMFR consultants). There is a drive to work towards more use of digital technology and the post holder would be expected to help drive this forwards.

Main duties of the job
Job Plan
Your job plan is anticipated to contain 10 Programmed Activities per week on average to be carried out at both Guy's and St Thomas' sites. This is an outline programme and you will be expected to discuss and agree a detailed job plan including your personal and professional objectives with your Clinical Lead within 3 months of your start date.

Be dentally qualified, be on the GDCs list and hold a licence to practice.
Develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.

Research, Teaching and Training
The post holder(s) must be able to:
Collaborate with academic and clinical colleagues to enhance the Trusts translational research portfolio, at all times meeting the full requirements of Research Governance.
Provide high quality teaching to dental undergraduates and members of other health care professions as required by the Clinical Director.
Performance Management
The post holder(s) is expected to:
Work with dental, nursing and managerial colleagues to ensure high performance in the following areas:
Ensure clinical efficiency e.g. reducing cancelled operations and DNA rates.
Optimise quality of outcomes e.g. infection control targets, improving patient experience
Contribute to financial management e.g. identification, implementation and achievement of cost improvement programmes and participating in efforts to ensure services are provided cost effectively e.g. ensuring accuracy of clinical data for the team.
Optimise operational efficiency e.g. waiting list activity and demand management.
Governance
The post holder must:
Review clinical outcomes in designated area using external benchmarking data where appropriate, to identify and advise variances to the Clinical Director.
Participate in clinical audit, incident reporting and analysis and to ensure resulting actions are implemented.
Work closely with the Directorate, Patient and Public Involvement panels in relation to clinical and services developments as delegated by the Clinical Director.
Participate in ensuring NICE requirements are reviewed and implemented and monitored in the speciality areas.
Ensure clinical guidelines and protocols are adhered to by junior dental staff and updated on a regular basis.
Keep fully informed about best practice in the speciality areas and ensure implications for practice changes are discussed with the Clinical Director.
Role model good practice for infection control to all members of the multidisciplinary team.
