Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional individual to join our Pathology Business Unit as the Finance & Commercial Manager. This leadership position will work across both Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and Kings' College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to support the delivery a new and exciting partnership to transform Pathology services across South East London.

This programme will deliver significant transformation of pathology services for South East London, through implementation of digital pathology and creation of a new clinically led target operating model with a new hub and essential services laboratories working on each site, working through unified and standardised pathways. This will provide improvements in service performance, outcomes, efficiency, and position SEL at the forefront of R&D and Innovation, while delivering material savings for Trusts, and a risk and gain share royalty, dependent on delivery of critical milestones.

The post holder will be responsible for leading the Finance & Commercial team of the Pathology Business Unit, responsible for the management and delivery of a £2.1bn contract with our Pathology partner (Synnovis) on behalf of Guy's & St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, Kings' College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and other NHS partners.

Main duties of the job

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that financial management is understood across the PBU and that financial information produced enables that understanding
  • Be responsible as a leading expert on the strategic financial and commercial planning agenda and programme for the PBU, including the financial lead on developing financial strategies and business plans.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the PBUs financial direction is robust and fit for purpose. To ensure that as a financial expert you constructively and positively challenge all aspects of the PBUs financial and business performance.
  • Responsible for the provision of financial leadership and guidance in delivering Trust wide programmes concerned with improved productivity, quality and efficiency programmes.
  • Identifying opportunities for financial efficiencies and highlighting areas of risk and reporting on progress of these whilst indicating other opportunities in year
  • Responsible for the development, implementation and delivery of the procedures, policies of the department. To ensure that all Trust wide financial policies are adhered within the PBU.
  • Ensuring proper financial control is maintained and value for money achieved.
  • Commercial support and adherence with the contract. Including to review, manage and complete when required CCEs (Change Control Enquiries), ensuring compliance with the contract where relevant.
  • Be the contract subject matter expert. The key go-to persons in relation to contract queries.

About us

  • Responsible for ensuring that the PBUs financial direction is robust and fit for purpose. To ensure that as a financial expert to manage and constructively and positively challenge all aspects of the PBUs financial and business performance.
  • The post will attend the PBU Boards and Performance Review meetings and will make a positive contribution to debates on service provision and PBU priorities.
  • Responsible for the provision of financial leadership and guidance in delivering PBU and Trust wide programmes concerned with improved productivity, quality and efficiency programmes
  • To work with the PBU, Business Intelligence Unit and Financial Planning and Development teams across GSTT and KCH to develop and maintain a suite of business intelligence applications and undertake appropriate bench-marking analysis to inform both Directorate and Trust wide performance
  • Responsible as a leading expert in an organisation of a £2.1 Billion diagnostic contract for both GSTT and KCH for the provision and delivery of all financial service that complies with statutory requirements, Accountable to the Director of Finance for Directorates adherence to Trust financial policies and procedures and statutory requirements.
