Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and dynamic nurse leader to lead and manage the Vaccine and Trials Team and Infection Research Team.

The position is full-time (37.5 hours per week) and is a one year fixed-term contract that can be applied to as a secondment.

The successful candidate will be an expert research nurse with proven leadership skills, flexibility and excellent organisational skills. You will be supported by Head of research Workforce, R&D leads and leaders within the directorate as well a network of Research Matrons and Managers.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will lead and line manage 2 research teams, one in the Directorate of Infection and the other is the Vaccine and Trials Team within the Directorate of Research and Development.

Duties include:

  • Visible professional and clinical leadership for clinical research delivery staff.
  • Ensuring the highest standard of patient care, good clinical practice standards
  • Ensuring excellent performance on delivery of whole research portfolio
  • Being an expert resource and facilitator for researchers and the research delivery teams

Essential

  • Able to recruit to, support and develop a specialist nursing service provision
  • Able to develop specialist procedure protocols and adhere to all Trust policies and standard operating procedures
  • Experience of managing a team and of line managing research nurses.
  • Able to teach/deliver core training of individual clinical trial/study protocols to junior members of staff
  • Able to deal with distressed patients and/ or relatives relating to the potential / real outcomes of their health and deal with the emotional consequences of patients coming to terms with long term conditions
  • Have clinical skills including venepuncture, IM/SC injections, give IV drug and Infusions, and have basic lab skills

Desirable

  • Experience of managing a portfolio of research studies

  • considerable experience in clinical trials, teaching and mentoring
  • demonstrable knowledge and understanding of current UK clinical trial regulations, good clinical practice
  • experience delivering specialised programmes of care, and provide highly specialised advice to patients who are participating in clinical trials
  • experience of facilitating and undertaking R&D activities as major job component
  • data collection skills and attention to detail

Desirable

  • considerable experience in the clinical environment working within the NHS
  • Have experience of supporting the management of finance within a department

Education / qualifications

  • You will have NMC Level One Registration
  • Your professional knowledge acquired at degree level or equivalent
  • Continuing professional development including short courses to master's level equivalent.

  • MSc qualification or currently studying towards one
