Two Posts ST6+ - Guy's & St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust, and National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery Queen Square
Applications are invited from orthopaedic and neurosurgical trainees who are interested in further specialist training in spinal surgery. This is an exciting and unique opportunity for suitable trainees to obtain hands-on experience of orthopaedic and neurological spinal surgery, including spinal trauma, spinal tumours, degenerative conditions, management and surgery of spinal deformity for adults and children, intradural and intramedullary tumours, Chiari malformations, syringomyelia and craniocervical junction pathologies.
This fellowship is for Surgeons who wish to become dedicated Spinal Consultants.
The post commences December 2024 (start date may be flexible) and is open to EEA or international trainees who have completed at least four years of specialist registrar (resident) training in orthopaedics or neurosurgery. NTN/VTN holders will need the written agreement of their postgraduate deanery to bring their training number with them. For those who wish to undertake the post as an LAT, up to one year may subsequently count towards the award of CCT on the advice of the Royal College of Surgeons from whom recognition must be obtained prospectively.
Main duties of the job
A range of specialised spinal surgery is undertaken across both sites and the successful applicant will be encouraged to attend these sessions in order to develop a broad interest in all aspects of spinal surgery and to further their Medical training.
You will be expected to actively participate in the department's audit and clinical governance activities with appraisal.
This post is established to allow the Trust to meet productivity requirements. The timetable will vary according to the needs of the department and the successful applicant's experience and duties, but will normally contain a mix of the various categories of work suitable for extending your training and experience.
The post holder will be responsible to the relevant consultant for an individual patient's care and Trust Appointed Clinical Fellows should carry out the consultant's instructions and policies, always seeking advice when appropriate. All departmental protocols and policies must be followed and the post-holder must familiarize him/herself with these policies.
The post holder will be encouraged to update his/her knowledge and skills through suitable Continuous Medical Education, including attending the entire department's academic, teaching and audit meetings. Study leave is encouraged.

The Fellow will work alongside the junior medical team within the spine firms.
