Main duties of the job

This is a clinical post focused in the rheumatology outpatients setting, with a potential for research to be included. Clinical commitments will be 5 outpatient clinics per week. There may be the occasional requirement to provide ward cover for rheumatology and lupus patients at St Thomas' Hospital and cross cover with the specialist registrar team at Guy's Hospital. There may be opportunities for the post-holder to get experience in a variety of clinics including musculoskeletal ultrasound. There are also opportunities for involvement in clinical trials with provision of appropriate training. We aim to support, and have had successful, CESR applications but this is dependent on the candidate.

The post-holder will fully participate in the postgraduate education programme which includes twice-monthly departmental meetings and will also be encouraged to attend regional specialist trainee training days. The post-holder will be assigned to an educational and academic supervisor. The post-holder may be expected to contribute to out of hours cover for medicine at St Thomas' Hospital a few times a year for which additional payment will be made.

As an organisation, we are committed to developing our services in ways that best suit the needs of our patients. This means that some staff groups will increasingly be asked to work a more flexible shift pattern so that we can offer services in the evenings or at weekends.
