Job summary

Are you passionate about driving forward changes in the NHS by obtaining hard numeric facts about the impact of innovations in healthcare? The Health Innovation Network is looking for a highly numerate, experienced and dynamic data analyst to work within the HIN's small informatics team. The team supports a range of projects underway to trial innovations in health and social care and obtain and use data to evidence if innovations have led to the desired changes/ impacts they set out to make. Hosted by Guy's and St Thomas's NHS Foundation Trust, we enjoy the benefits of being NHS members of staff while focusing on innovation to improve the lives of patients and staff in the health and care sector. While this was important before, it has an even greater focus now with innovation being looked to help reduce elective care backlogs and health inequalities. The main purpose of this post is to provide high quality analysis and reporting to support the delivery of the Health Innovation Network's priority projects. Innovation is at the heart of everything we do, from delivering transformational programmes to improving patient pathways, or internally with our wide range of health and mental health wellbeing initiatives. Main duties of the job

Working closely with clinical themes and HIN members, the post-holder will provide support with data collection, data management and analysis to support a range of evaluations within the HIN and for wider membership and commissioners/ clients. As part of the Informatics Team, the post holder will be responsible for:

Checking and reporting on Data Quality issues for data provided by technology companies or NHS partners or publicly available data sets.

Putting in place automated or manual checks on data to ascertain quality and provide timely and meaningful inputs so that the quality issues can be corrected.

Extracting relevant data and providing analysis and meaningful insights from data through the production of reports etc. Supporting additional initiatives including training staff on how to use data analysis tools and how to interpret data.

Supporting the development, implementation and updating of data modelling tools and approaches.

Creating reports, making presentations and undertaking projects aimed at improving information provision and analysis for the Health Innovation Network and their members.

The role involves working on ad hoc analytical projects requiring a broad knowledge of health and social care datasets and a broad range of technical skills including advanced skills in Excel, Access, dashboarding tools (Tableau, Power BI and google datasheets) and knowledge and experience of applying coding languages including SQL, python and R.

Ensures that data collected from innovation sites is aggregated and to provide demonstrable assurance that the Health Innovation Network work stream data quality meets necessary standards and communicate issues and good practice with clinical teams and managers. To provide assurance that the necessary data are collected, analysed, presented and interpreted with regard to performance management within the Health Innovation Network clinical work streams, along with complying with all necessary statutory requirements.

Ensuring the timely collection, analysis and reporting of quantitative data in relation to evaluations to HIN stakeholders and commissioners/ clients. To provide assurance that any sensitive data is extracted and processed in accordance with the Data Protection Act, General Data Protection Regulation and Caldicott principles.

Participate or lead special information projects ensuring they are aligned to the key objectives of the project/ evaluation, providing options and recommendations to support these objectives.

To work with clinicians and Health Innovation Network Project Managers to undertake analysis of business/care delivery processes, advising on how these might be changed or refined to improve their efficiency, and how such changes would be enabled by the appropriate use of information systems and communications technology. To review the information requirements of clinicians, establishing any shortfalls and making recommendations on priorities in the light of business or service priorities. Management

To support the training and development of Health Innovation Network Information and Evaluation Service staff in the appropriate use of information collection, management and visualisation techniques (including statistical analysis) to support service improvement.

To act as a resource to Health Innovation Network staff on health and social care information, providing information searches, data analyses and training.

To assist in the design and implementation of audit and evaluation projects.

To provide cover as required to the Lead Analyst

Development

To be responsible for new systems testing when any amendments are made to national datasets that are then reflected in local databases. (i.e. field changes, facilitate changes with external provider and then test in context before going live).

To identify new data collection, validation and presentation requirements.

To develop and maintain databases as required for data collection and analysis.

To maintain and develop data visualisation, impact tools and dashboards

To research and develop appropriate evaluation methods, including data collection methods and the use of appropriate statistical methods to obtain and analyse data
