Job summary

Due to expansion of the the physiotherapy team, this exciting permanent post in the Directorate of Rehabilitation and Therapies offers the opportunity for a Band 5 physiotherapist to join our dynamic team at Harefield Hospital, Middlesex and to develop them further clinically, supervising assistants and students and contributing to key departmental projects.

Main duties of the job

The successful physiotherapist will join the other Band 5 physiotherapist, rotating every 6 months between transplantation, cardiothoracic surgery and cardiac rehabilitation, treating a variety of cardio-thoracic conditions in the critical care, ward and outpatient settings.

The post holder will be assessing and treating heart and lung transplant patients and those with ventricular assist devices, or cardiology patients and those having cardiac or thoracic surgery pre-operatively through to discharge. There is the opportunity to gain some experience in pulmonary rehabilitation.

Job responsibilities

To participate in the Band 5 rotational scheme which involves working across the Trust in a range of critical care, ward settings and out-patient clinics.

To provide a specialist physiotherapy service in cardiothoracic surgery/cardiology services, and cardiothoracic transplantation services.

To independently perform physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse presentations to provide a diagnosis and deliver an individualised treatment programme.

To manage own patient caseload and be responsible for a defined area of service or a particular patient type, working with direct supervision.

Supervise, educate and assess the performance of physiotherapy students; this would be to a graduate standard and involve working with Universities to ensure standard of practice and teaching meets the standards set by degree level qualification.

Supervise, educate and assess the performance of therapy assistants.

Undertake evidence-based audit, formulate guidelines and research projects under the supervision of direct line manager to further own and department clinical practice within each rotation.

To use evidence based principles/current best practice to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.To consolidate and develop knowledge and skills through participation in continuous professional development (CPD)
