Job summary
The Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals Clinical Group is seeking to appoint a full-timeLocum Consultant Cardiac Surgeon (Royal Brompton site). The post is for 6 months in the first instance but may be extended by mutual agreement.
The principal role of this post is to provide surgical care for adult patients with acquired cardiac disease. The successful candidate will have regular theatre sessions i.e. 1 fixed and 1 or 2 flexible operating days per week. Regular MDT's, ward rounds and clinics. It is expected that he/she will participate in teaching and education, conduct research and actively contribute to the continuing and evolving clinical governance framework.
Applicants are required to be fully registered Medical Practitioners and it is deemed desirable to be on the GMC's Specialist Register or be eligible for admission to the Register.

Main duties of the job
- Responsible for provision of care, at consultant level, to Cardiac Surgical inpatients, outpatients, and patients undergoing cardiac surgery, including pre-procedural evaluation and post procedural care. Active contribution to multi-disciplinary team working. Regular consultant-led ward rounds, and on call commitments.
- To participate in Clinical Governance, Audit and Quality Improvement initiatives within Cardiac Surgery.
- To participate in Clinical Audit programme and Clinical Governance.
- To assist in the management of junior and research medical staff and of technical staff according to Trust policies and in line with the requirements of the clinical service.
- To maintain effective communication and working relationships with medical, scientific, management, technical and nursing staff, as required for performing the responsibilities of this post. This includes electronic communication within the department, the Trust, and with national and international colleagues.

- Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in relevant speciality
- Specialist training in Cardiac Surgery
- Experienced independent operator for cardiac surgery, especially for 'routine' CABG, AVR and AVR + CABG
- Able to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision
Desirable
- Post-CCT fellowship experience in an area of sub-specialty interest e.g. mini-mitral, aorto-vascular
- Proven track record of research in cardiac surgery
- Leadership of care group/directorate (or equivalent)
