Job summary
The MDT Coordinator will lead on the tracking of patient pathways and provide a comprehensive and quality administration service to the Directorate Management Team. By working closely with a wide range of clinical and managerial staff, the post holder will ensure patients receive treatment as soon as possible and ensure national targets are met. This role has a focus on the delivery of the regional revision knee MDT as part of the national revision knee network led in the trust's capacity at the regional Major Revision Centre. This is an exciting opportunity to have a role in developing this service as part of the British Association for Surgery of the Knee (BASK) and Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) initiatives.
Main duties of the job
The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the MDT Coordinator role and its purpose within the service; they are not exhaustive and the post holder may be required to undertake additional or alternative administrative and managerial duties and responsibilities commensurate with the level of the post, to support the smooth running of the department.
Operational
- Plan and organise the regional revision knee multi-disciplinary team meetings.
- Monitor and review patient care and/or treatment progress using the Patient Tracking List in line with Trust and local policies.
- Identify from the Tracking List the next steps in the patient care pathway in line with clinical need (peer review).
- Receive patient referrals and administer in line with timings and requirements as set out in Trust and National policies.

The Surgical Directorate, which sits within the clinical group for Cancer and Surgery, is made up of a number of distinct clinical and non-clinical departments, which deliver specialist outpatient, day surgery, inpatient wards, elective and non-elective surgical services for Trauma & Orthopaedics, Plastic Surgery and Hand Unit. The Cancer and Surgery clinical group is responsible for the overall delivery of the cancer and surgical services as well as theatres across the Trust. The cancer and Surgery portfolio is held to account by the GSTT Board to provide assurance that patient safety, experience and quality of care are central to the work of their directorates.
The non-clinical services include the administrative functions for outpatient booking and reception as well as elective and non-elective theatre booking.

Data collection and analysis:
- Responsible for collecting and updating patient information on the relevant databases in line with local policy, to ensure efficient pathway progress. This includes maintaining the accuracy of data at all times.
- Working with the management and clinical teams to collect necessary data in order to improve performance with national Key Performance Indicators for Major Revision Centres.
Policy development
- Review and support development and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures.
- Review and support development and implementation of internal targets.
Staff Management
- Providing support for day to day queries from other administrators and allied health care professionals
- Ensure administrators are fully adhering to the appropriate Trust policies and protocols.
- Identify training and development needs of staff, taking these forward where appropriate.
General Responsibilities
- Use initiative and work without direct supervision, as well as to use relevant information technology to facilitate the performance of tasks.
- Participate in annual appraisals and performance reviews. Identify personal development needs.
- Attend training and development as required.
- Help provide cover for the other departmental administrators during busy periods, sickness and annual leave and where there is an imbalance of workload.

- Good general education with English and Maths to GCSE standard or equivalent
- Educated to diploma level or NVQ 3, City and Guilds certificate level in business administration or equivalent
- Evidence of some formal further training in short courses, experience of a range of admin practices and with significant experience of hospital administration
Desirable
- IT package qualification/training, e.g. European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)
- Customer services qualification/training

- Significant proven experience of delivering to high standards in a fast-paced high volume customer care environment.
