This SLT adults with learning disabilities team covers the diverse boroughs of Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham, making this an exciting opportunity to hold a varied communication and dysphagia caseload. Band 6s are a key part of the SLT and wider MDT, they are encouraged to take part in and lead service development projects alongside providing supervision of peers and for other team members, therefore ensuring that no two days in this post will be the same.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will work within a supportive and friendly multidisciplinary team at East Dulwich and provide a service to adults with learning disabilities and their support networks across the borough of Lambeth.
They will be part of a supportive wider 3-borough team covering Southwark, Lambeth and Lewisham and will have opportunities to work across all 3 London boroughs.
The postholder will be supported to develop their skills and knowledge in a range of areas. These areas include: Dysphagia, Communication Passports, Paper based AAC, Electronic AAC, Makaton, Accessible Information, Intensive Interaction, Interactive Storytelling, working with people who have complex needs, multiagency working and training of others.
Experience and/or a passion for working with people with a learning disability is essential.
There is a strong ethos of clinical support and supervision within the team. The team has regular unidisciplinary as well as multidisciplinary meetings.

The post holder will be responsible for the provision of a cohesive and effective speech and language therapy service to adults with learning disabilities (ALD) residents within the borough of Lambeth.
The post holder will provide assessment, advice and intervention to clients receiving services from a number of appropriate agencies, such as Social Services, not for profit organisations, private and voluntary.
The post holder will provide appropriate communication and eating and drinking assessment and intervention to clients.
The post holder will be expected to deliver training to staff and significant others in the areas of communication and eating and drinking.
