We have the exciting opportunity for a skilled, motivated and enthusiastic individual to join us at Guys and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.The successful applicant will work across both Guys and St Thomas' sites and occasionally within the Evelina London Childrens Hospital.
We are seeking a senior nursing assistant with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.You should have developed skills in IT and the ability to use Microsoft packages to provide comprehensive administrative and clinical support to the departments and multidisciplinary team. Experience using hospital computer systems (e.g. EPIC) is highly beneficial.
You will have responsibility for ensuring the safety and wellbeing of service users, and always working in a manner that promotes dignity and person centred care principles which embody the Trust values.
You will need the ability to work on your own initiative as well as within a team. Successful applicants will work closely with Radiologists, Sonographers, Nurses, Administrative and clerical staff and an established team of Nursing Assistants.
Organisation of the department, chaperoning patients and assisting clinicians during procedures will be an essential part of your role. An ability to adapt to changing situations and be flexible is essential.
Main duties of the job
Carrying out assigned tasks within the ultrasound department (across three different sites) as part of clinical team in support of doctors, sonographers and registered nurses and to undertake some aspects of care provision without direct supervision.
Organising daily running of the area and liaising with service users. Ensuring the safety and well being of services users, and always working in a manner that promotes dignity and person centered care principles.

- Supervise patients waiting for their scans; this will include inpatients who might become unwell and require attention/escalation.
- To restock the scan rooms and maintain stock level regularly.
- To give patient experience feedback forms to patients.
- To ensure the waiting areas are clean and tidy.
- To liaise with the infection control team to organise deep cleans of scan rooms where required. Must be aware of IPC principles.
- To ensure the ultrasound rooms and machines are clean.
- To support the Ultrasound lists by taking patients into the allocated room when required.
- To load the patients details onto the Ultrasound machine and confirm patient identification.
- Assist the patient with positioning themselves on the ultrasound couch. Check the body part to be scanned and prep the patient where applicable.
